Not to dip my fly in the ointment but.... |

Didn't it all go rather easy last night? No obvious GOP cheating, no sore loser demanding recounts or protection from a stacked court. McCain gave in and that was that.
What are they thinking in the GOP right now?
OK, we fucked it up. We put Bush in, he's an idiot and he fucked up the country. Luckily the Dems come along and offer to fix things. The lies and fear campaign didn't work. Most Americans are not as dumb as we thought. So here it is. Tell Bachmann to STFU, no fillibusters in the Senate, pull the plug on Fox news. Maybe we'll get lucky and Rush will have a bad accident. OD Coulter on her hormone shots. Whatever.
Because the sooner the Democrats fix this mess, the sooner WE can get back in a fuck it up again.

It's good the election is over. Now we can get back to the real work: attacking eachother.

3. The republicans put too much stock in the hate factor |

I don't think they could really accept that it would happen. Old bigotry dies hard.

No. The success last night didn't just happen. Last night was the culmination of a lot of work and sacrifice to achieve those very ends over the last six years or so.

The GOTV was massive and took unprecedented manpower and money to pull that off. Only with a vibrant and active voter turnout was last night possible.
Furthermore, the GOP was up to all those tricks of the past. It just that, what we've said all along, voter turnout is the key to beating back the cheat machine.

7. I do not know what leaders are thinking in the GOP right now, but I rather doubt |

...they are doing the kind of soul searching suggested in your statement. They will slink back into the shadows as to what they really think, proceed to redefine their strategy and tactics to achieve their goals outlined in PNAC, but give the public image of fully cooperating toward unity while always looking for the flaws and weaknesses to keep democrats from advancing any agenda.
