Poll question: Who cried last night when Obama won?
I have to admit it, hard boiled political junkie that I am, I had a good cry last night when Obama won. I was sitting in a room sorting and interpreting County Wide Election returns for the local Dem candidates, and the race was called for Obama.

I was surrounded by kids and adults of every hue, and it struck me, that for the first time in our history, our nation lived up to the promise of equality made so long ago. Our kids are gonna live in a little more positive world than we had. WE have a long way to go, but this was an amazing step.

It made me cry along with a few other moms in that room.

How about you? Did you cry?

14. I also cried. I noted that Jesse Jackson and Oprah cried too. How could anyone keep a dry eye?

15. I figured it would be impossible for most of us unless we were distracted.
When I put this poll up I honestly figured that (for the most part) the only ones who did not cry at least a little bit probably were focused on another race or proposition at the time.

For them, it hit later.

I have to admit that I am saddened a great deal to hear that California passed that atrocity. Steals some of the joy in Obama's win. I can only hope that there is some way to overturn that proposition.

6. I didn't cry immediately
I was hosting a little party at my house. I had to keep my shit together to be the best host I could be. Pouring drinks, making snacks, keeping conversation witty and intelligent took all the focus I could muster. When my guests left, I relaxed and reality sunk in. The tears of joy started flowing then.

12. I was sitting there with a Precinct Woman who was PISSED OFF and I was crying.
I had a Precinct Woman who was seriously pissed off at the returns out of her Precinct and I was trying to explain to her that she had done her job with turnout--but that undervotes come when voters just don't know enough about the specific races or maybe never make it that far down the ballot (local races have that happen pretty often around here.) It wasn't HER fault it just happens sometimes--ya know?

So I'm sitting there just bawling, this lady is screamingly pissed off, and I had to stop and laugh. I gave up on "maintaining" at that point...

13. Grant Park
Crying in the middle of a crowd. The guys behind me were hugging and crying. Lots of tears in the eyes of people who were around me. They were smiling, crying and whooping.

Awesome.

24. On MSNBC (and other channels probably), after Keith made the
announcement (with a tiny quaver in his voice), we just sat and watched the people's elation. I'm glad there was no commentary at that moment-- it wasn't needed. What an experience

And every other time I think of what happened. Eight long years behind us. A policy of hatred, division and failure repudiated.

21. I was stunned-- couldn't believe it. Eight years is such a long time
but once my clock hit 8:00 (PT), BOOM!!! He was declared the winner.

That incredible historical moment was overwhelming and exhilarating.

I'm still trying to absorb it though I'm so happy I can barely stand it!!!!! :bounce:

I suspect the tears will be coming anytime now...

We've had 8 long years of hell and could easily have gotten 4 or 8 more.

Although, I have to say that my hubby cried more than I did. O8)
