Waxman plans to wrest control of Energy and Commerce Committee from Dingell.»
from ThinkProgress

Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) “is calling senior Democrats to seek the top spot” on the influential Energy and Commerce Committee, which currently belongs to Rep. John Dingell (D-MI). Roll Call reports, “The move marks a major showdown between two Democratic powerhouses, with implications for a host of major legislation next year from health care to global warming to renewable energy.”

Oh please let Waxman win this one. I can't think of a better man to put a halt to the mess Dingell has made of our energy policy.

Go Waxman!

3. It would be nice to get Dingle out that chairmanship
Interesting that power plays are beginning this soon. I could think of a bunch
of congressmen that would do a better job than Dingle.

6. True, it wouldn't take much to be better than Dingell
But Waxman is a very thorough man. Very detailed minded and can't stand corruption and greed. Perfect to clean up the mess Dingell and Cheney have made.

4. DINGAL is a right wing democrat...
...beholden to cowing before the Michigan auto industry capitalists. Waxman should EASILY have an inroad into this committee that will be the genesis of our sorely needed global warming dialog.

With Waxman in charge, he will MANDATE that the auto industry curb emissions and fuel standards, and of course set the stage for creating massive, progressive standards that will allow the US to FINALLY become the WORLD LEADER in preventing republican corporate sponsorship of proven global warming.

5. I can't see him pulling that off.
Dingell is a force to be reckoned with. He has held his seat since 1955, making him the longest serving current member of Congress and his father held the seat for 22 years before that. He has enormous clout and any attempt to force him out would be exceedingly divisive. He may not be a favorite of Pelosi, but I doubt she wants to expend the political capital it would take to force him out of Commerce.

More likely, she might engineer an attempt to divide the Energy and Commerce committee into two separate committees, with Dingell chairing one and Waxman the other.
