...is it something they acquire?

It boggles my mind that Ted "Tubes" Stevens can get re-elected after being convicted of SEVEN FELONY CHARGES!! Republicans don't give a damn???? <b>What's the story with these people??</b> :wtf:

1. Authoritarianism
Authoritarians (aka over half the people left in the GOP) are very submissive towards authority and want to believe authority figures can be trusted. That is partly why conservatives got to upset about Abu Gharib being made public.

I would say it is innate in movement conservative psychology to not have very deep principles wrt the rule of law. Reagan & Bush 43 are both runners of criminal enterprises. Reagan's AG was even investigated for breaking the law.
