Ban on Gay Marriage Still Too Close to Call-- millions of absentee ballots!
Sorry if this is a dupe (I searched first). Sounds promising to me!!!

Millions of absentee ballots yet to be counted
By Troy May

There is still hope that the ban on gay marriage will not pass despite the early election results that shows us losing. The race is still too close to call.

As of early this morning, there are 5,163,908 votes in favor of the ban on gay marriage, and 4,760,336 against the ban. That’s a difference of 403,572 votes to freedom for gay couples.

“Fact is there are millions of votes that are yet to be counted,” said Kate Kendell, executive director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and board member of the No On Proposition 8 campaign. “The election is still too close to call.”

In a press conference today, Proposition 8 opponents, said there are still 3 million to 4 million absentee ballots that need to be counted. The late ballots were mailed during the last five days or so. Those who vote late by absentee tend to be more liberal and progressive than those who vote early via absentee, said Geoff Kors, executive director for Equality California.

“My ballot is one of those,” Kors said. Kendell added that she too just mailed in her absentee ballet this weekend.
The final votes on “Proposition 8 “is expected later today, or even tomorrow from the California Secretary of State.

1. It needs to be defeated
Any attempt by the majority to oppress a minority should be defeated, if not in this ballot, then in the courts.

If one group is targeted, you can bet other groups will follow.

5. I think it's possible...
I and many people I know voted absentee and most of us sent in our ballots about a week ago. And just about every one of us voted NO on prop 8. I think there are a lot more like us out there in those 3-4 million ballots! Keeping my fingers crossed!

7. So, let's undercut the estimated amount and say 2.5 million ballots still need to be counted.
403,572 is (rounding up) 17% of 2.5 So, I'm thinking that capturing 20% will even it up, and then the remaining 80% needs only tip slightly in our favor and Prop h8 is defeated.

Oh, please let this be true.

22. Only 50% of registered voters in SF voted so far...

hopefully there are a hell of a lot of lazy, latte-drinking liberals who wanted to vote but didn't want to wait in line.

14. I was so happy to hear
about the absentee ballots this morning. I'm hoping, and, as an atheist, coming as close as I can to praying, for the defeat of this measure that is nothing more than an act of cruel and mean spirit.

My heart goes out to all the men and women who were counting on us here in California. I'm ashamed. I thought we were a progressive state. I thought we were THE progressive state.

Here's to every absentee ballot holding a big fat NO!! :toast:
