Michael Crichton has died.
http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2008/11/best-selling-author-michael-crichton-dies.html

The family of Michael Crichton, the million-selling author of such historic and prehistoric science fantasies as "Jurassic Park," "Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain," says the author has died in Los Angeles.

Crichton died Tuesday at 66. He had been privately battling cancer, his family said.

"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," his family said in a statement.

3. His books were not that good; his anti-science and global warming denial was stupid
However, cancer is a shitty way to die.

5. Wow, didn't know he was sick. That's sad. He was an interesting, informative writer.
Not a very skilled wordsmith, IMHO, but his ideas were smart and his research was at least intriguing, and at times believable, and his fiction made complex scientific possibilities accessible to many.

Bummer. yeah, his politics sucked, as I recall, but sad that he died so young.

6. Crichton got me reading...
typical teenager, didn't think much for reading. Comic books, was my first step, then moved to Crighton. He became bit of a right-wing nut later, but I owe it to him for turning me onto books.
