Police probe Election Night threat to Obama
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Police_probe_Election_Night_threat_to_1105.html

While most of Chicago was celebrating Tuesday night, police and Secret Service agents believe one man may have been plotting to harm the man who would become president elect.

"Police and the Secret Service are investigating whether a man arrested this afternoon in Rosemont with an assault rifle intended to harm Barack Obama, several sources have told the Chicago Sun-Times," the paper reported.

1. There are
numerous very bitter, hateful and nasty NeoCons out there right now. Their true colors are showing.

2. This is another reason why NO ONE needs to own an assault rifle.
You gun lovers can argue that the same result can be accomplished with any rifle but assault rifles are designed for one purpose and one purpose only; to kill people.

BAN ASSAULT RIFLES.

9. The assault rifles don't scare me half...
as much as the Barrett sniper rifles and the McMillan tactical rifles.

A Canadian sniper in Afghanistan has been confirmed as hitting an enemy soldier at a range of 2,310 meters, the longest recorded and confirmed sniper shot in history. The record lasted only one day, until a second Canadian sniper hit an enemy soldier at 2,400 meters (8000 feet). The Canadian snipers fire special .50-calibre McMillan tactical rifles, which are bolt-action weapons with five-round magazines.

A little research...

3. I'm an atheist, but I pray...
for Obama's safety..... on several levels. I pray that he'll be there for his family - his wife and growing girls. I pray that he'll be safe to try to lead this country out of these messes we are in. I pray that he'll be there for the world... a new world leader for a new age. And finally, I pray for his safety, since if he dies, this country may fragment even worse than we are now - and that's pretty damned fragmented.

4. Thank goodness for the random traffic stop that caught this guy.
The scary part is, there are more like him out there and the hate speech from McCain and Palin just egged them on.
"The Obama campaign was provided with reports from the Secret Service showing a sharp and disturbing increase in threats to Obama in September and early October, at the same time that many crowds at Palin rallies became more frenzied," the magazine reports in a special post-election edition. "Michelle Obama was shaken by the vituperative crowds and the hot rhetoric from the GOP candidates. 'Why would they try to make people hate us?' Michelle asked a top campaign aide."

Sadly, the question answers itself. McCain can make nice all he wants, but every time something like this rears its ugly head, I will hold him at least partially responsible for fostering an atmosphere accepting of open, public hatred. There's no way he was unaware of the effect that might have in encouraging the crazies to pass from the talking stage to the action stage. No way.

5. with that I agree, He had
every opportunity to say, "that is not what we stand for" but he just put his hands up and shook his head. Guess he never heard of speaking though your voice is shaking.

Peace

7. It's interesting how the two candidates handled the crap
As soon as Sarah Palin's daughter became the topic du jour online, Obama held a press conference and sent out an email asking his supporters to stop bringing her children into the race.

But McCain didn't do anything to try and stop his supporters from yelling "kill him" and "terrorist" at his rallies.

Speaks volumes about the character of each man.

8. Agreed ...

This is why his speech last night rang hollow to me.

Yeah, it was a good speech. So what.

He should have given a good speech two months ago instead of letting his frenzied attack dogs off their leashes.

6. this is going to happen countless times over the next few years
Rather than getting worked up about it, we're just going to have to trust in his security and not worry about it.
