I put my flag up today for the first time since 2004

Can't believe how much has changed since then. Back then, I was living in California and hoping that this country would redeem itself from the previous four years and take Bush out of office. When that wasn't the case, when this country decided that it liked what it saw and could do with another four years of his being the "decider," I took down my flag and never flew it again. I would not show support for four more years of what was to come (and I actually served this country in the Army).

Four years later, my family and I are living back in Georgia where I grew up. Trying to start a small business and farm. This year has not been the easiest by far, let alone for my wife who was born in California and loves Washington (we left Washington to move back here last year....long story).

I knew that Obama's chances for taking Georgia were a long shot, I'm actually happy how close it was. Plus we're having the run off to get rid of Saxby.

But after last night, when there finally is light at the end of this tunnel, and the country made it's first smart decision in a long time. I put the flag again and was able to feel some measure of pride for what it stood for once again.

We are in a mess with what Bush left, I'm glad President-elect Obama will be here to lead us back into the light.

I wish Georgia could have made history with the rest of you all. Would have made my wife happier that's for sure =) "We live in a red state," we her actual words last night. "More of a lighter pink I would say," was my response at seeing the numbers.

1. We've taken back the country AND her flag!
It stands for her people again, not just Republicans.

2. Hey, Fayetteville! I grew up in Jonesboro. Was born in Penna in the 70's.
Only once was called a Yankee or considered an outsider because of my place of origin. I live in Washington state now, spent most of the 90's up North, but I still consider myself a Georgian and a Southerner. And I'm about as left, liberal, progressive (whatever we are supposed to call ourselves) as can be. Comfort your wife that not everyone there is wrong, politically, or that the place or culture or influence of the place itself is inherently republican.

7. Hey, Jonesboro!
You're lucky to be there. My wife and I have been debating about the decision we made to move out here in the first place leaving the Sound behind =). We did it for family though, and trying to get the a farm going on the family land again since everyone here has been selling their land for housing development.

Funny that one of the things that got us choked up most last night was seeing the images of everyone celebrating in Seattle.

5. I took down my flag when Bush took office, coming from Texas I knew what he was about.
I took out my flag this morning and it is waving in the breeze now.

I can take pride in the flag again.

6. I put my flag out for the 1st time in 8 years also, and it felt good.
I haven't been especially proud of my country for 8 years, but today I am and I'm showing it.
