Can Sarah Palin appoint herself as the senator from Alaska
Because Stevens is a convicted felon I have heard from a few news orgs that he will not be allowed to serve in the senate, so the gov picks his replacement (which is my understanding of how it works, the gov picks someone from the same party). If so, can Palin pick herself as the new senator from AK?

2. Yes she can.
That's why I'm hoping and hoping that the remaining ballots sink that felon Stephens (prisoner number 30932093).

3. That Would Furnish a Strong Incentive Not to Expel Stevens
Surely even that crook would be better than Palin.

7. NO she CANNOT.
Alaska law calls for a special election to be called within 90 days of a vacancy. NO Governor's appointment.

8. No, she can't.
We changed the law after Frank Murkowski appointed his daughter Lisa to finish out his term. The most Sarah could do is appoint herself as interim senator for 90 days until a special election could be held. If she did that, she'd have to step down as governor and take the risk of losing the special election (assuming she was the candidate). I'm not sure she wants to take that chance since her reputation has taken such a beating in the past two months.

But, rest assured, she CANNOT appoint herself to Ted's seat.

9. There would be a special election
But I have a sick feeling she'll be one of the candidates. The neocon shitbags want her to stay on the national scene, and what better way to do it?
