2. That map is misleading without a careful read |
|
I looked at Nebraska - which went for McCain, with the possible exception of Omaha, and it was almost entirely blue.
Then I read the caption - the color is change in party from 2004. That makes sense - it is showing change, not status. It is nice to see the concrete difference the 50 state campaign Obama ran made!

...having eaten its host. Now the Republic party consists of little more than the racists and religious lunatics that they courted on the way to building their "permanent majority".
Har de har har har! Hope the death by a thousand cuts continues to eat you alive, GOP! To mix a metaphor or two...

Scatter the sizable pool of likely Democratic voters, and like magic those counties shift more Republican.

I think I cheered loudest for NC, even when it was just under, because that's an amazing feat of awakening.

29. Alabama's looking kinda purple now |
|
Alabama largely went for McCain, but my county went solid for Obama. I'm in Birmingham, the seat of the civil rights movement, and I'm so proud that Jefferson County went 52% for Obama. Is it better to live in a red state, but a blue county (and congressional district), or a blue state, but in a red locale?
According to this map, central and south Alabama seem to be trending back to blue.

32. Before this election I was in a blue county in a red state with a red |

congressional district and red senators. That sucked. We got screwed every time Robin Hayes or Elizabeth Dole voted. Some of our local Democrats are great, but some are the Dixiecrat types too, so it's a mixed bag locally.
I can certainly say it feels much better to be in a blue county with a blue congressional district and a blue senator and a blue state now. I'm still in a pleasant state of shock and awe of NC being blue. I'm looking for the perfect avatar size picture of NC to paint blue right now. :D
