And once again I am remimded why I hate VISTA
so the puter is acting buggy

Went and got Karpensky since Norton's was not woth the drive space

Good news, it found a bunch of crap

bad news... I have spent a wonderful afternoon updating programs.

Yep, reminded once again WHY I love my Apple and the little Linux Lappie

Now hope it stops crashing on hubby. He uses it for gaming

There are days I am just tempted to kick this thing to the next county! Or just load Ubuntu (He'd kill me... gamer that he is)

7. Well when we got the machine Norton was the only thing
out for the 64 bit operating one....

Kerpensky is much better, but some of my favorite 32 bit apps, that are free ***Cought spybot cough*** will not run on 64

I made that decision... and the support is just not what it should be

9. I don't think they have it for 64...
I used it on a secondary laptop for years and no problem. Ran both AVG for virus and Spybot for spyware

10. For the love of God, NB, give Simply Mepis a try- it's free and it rocks!
Simply Mepis (based on the wildly-popular Ubuntu Linux distribution)

Why SimplyMEPIS 7.0 Linux?

SimplyMEPIS just works! It is pre-configured for simplicity and ease of use, and you will be productive in a matter of minutes, even if this is your first try with Linux

SimplyMEPIS features unique hardware detection and configuration superior to any other Linux versions

SimplyMEPIS allows you to test and try without installation to see if it suits you and your needs

SimplyMEPIS is well supported by an excellent Community Forum, Community Wiki, and User's Manual,

SimplyMEPIS as a Live CD or DVD allows you to run the Linux operating system and all the programs from your CD or DVD drive before you install. There is no need to backup all your data, delete the whole hard disk and install the system, just to find it doesn't meet your needs and expectations.

Insert the SimplyMepis disc in your drive and reboot your computer. Simple menu choices will quickly load SimplyMEPIS Linux allowing you to login. You'll have a SimplyMEPIS desktop just as it would be when you install it to your hard drive. Test the included software, see if it supports all your hardware, and assure that your internet connection works. You can also use SimplyMEPIS as a recovery CD for troubleshooting computers and providing the tools to save your valuable data.

Comes with the full OpenOffice suite and many other useful programs covering the whole spectrum of your possible needs. You don't need to even install it- just pop the CD in and give it a try! In this "LiveCD" mode, it runs entirely from memory and doesn't write to your hard drive in any way.

Heck, even if you don't wind up choosing it as your next operating system, keep the disc around: It makes a great file recovery tool when your Windows has been crippled with spyware or malware.

Direct download for 32-bit CPU's here, 64-bit processors here. Just burn, restart the computer with the disc in the CD-Rom or DVD drive and you're off!

11. That's the GAMING machine... can't
I barely touch it except when hubby goes... IT AIN'T working

Of course by then it means I will waste one to two days chasing errors and all that... argh... I hate IT at home!

My primary machine is my macbook, and my secondary machine is an Asus running what I consider a broken version of Xandros

So I will give it a looksie for the Xandros box... that one gives me headaches for the limited synaptic distros... if you get me drift

Now will look at it to see if I can make a bootable USB for the secondary lappie
