Applying "The Spirit of '76" to our own lives during Obama's 76-day transition period
"Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."
- Barack Obama, Feb. 5, 2008

With no online poll-hopping to occupy my time, and feeling much calmer after 10 solid hours of sleep than began around 4 a.m. Wednesday, I found myself in a reflective mood today. What do things like "hope" and "change" mean for Americans and the world on a personal level now that we have voted for the change Obama represents?

When I saw that the transition period between Election Day and Inauguration Day is 76 days long, my mind immediately turned poetic and I began thinking of "The Spirit of '76" that was so central to the American Revolution. For this American, at least, it makes for an inspiring metaphor that can be applied to what is happening now.

For those of you who are interested in such things, here's the link.
