Could Republican immigrant bashing really be thinly guised racial hatred of Hispanics? |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 10:21 AM by The Craw
The rabid *hatred* Republicans hold not just for illegal immigrants- but all immigrants sounds a great deal to me like thinly guised racial hatred of Hispanics. The venom is aimed at Hispanics-yet seldom if ever at the large number of russians or irish that are moving to America.
Michael Savage routinely calls Mexicans 'animals','mud people',and 'sub human'-I can only assume his racism extended to Mexican Americans and other Latinos. Savage is not the only one who describes Mexicans crossing the border as sub human- most right wing radio blowhards describe Mexicans as being less than human
Yet NOT ONCE have I ever heard them refer to illegal (or legal) Canadian,Russian or Irish immigrants as being less than human. Here in Boston we have quite a few illegal Irish immigrants- yet the local right wing radio blowhards ignore them, but rather focus their hatred on immigrants from the Dominican Republic.
I'm wondering-could this be a big reason why most Hispanics voted for Obama- because Republicans were aiming some serious racial hatred at Hispanics?

4. It's xenophobia, and it's directed against everyone who is not a WASP |
|
Hispanics are certainly taking their share of xenophobic punishment, but it is also directed at First Americans, Africans, Europeans, Central and Southern American, South Asian, Eastern Asians, and Pacific Islanders.

13. Nope I just grew up in a heavy Baptist area and have been in their homes |
|
They are mean, nasty, fucks that think they are the choosen ones and everyone else were put on earth to serve them. They are the first to accuse another of crimes committed against them, one family had their house broke into 4 times and pointed the finger at my neighbor ( he was a poor kid that broke into homes to steal food ) there was one small problem, he was in jail all 4 times. But I also had my troubles with them and one of the reasons I don't have many friends.

"I bet you do, and I bet of all the people like you, you probably like YOU the best."

12. Yes, and it obscures the real problem, that being illegal employment. |
|
Illegal employment is easily solved, and in solving, removes the primary motivation for illegal immigration.
The fact is that neither side of this issue really wants to solve it, the parasite class wants cheap labor and the immigrant advocates want the numbers for their own agenda. It's like the drug war, if it ends, what will all those that make their living from it do without it?

Even the word "Hispanic" downplays that. Let's talk racism, shall we? You know the repugs hate Native Americans.

21. we have Russkies coming here illegally? No Amurikan favors that. |

There are a couple of issues with the Irish. For one thing, they can blend in with the majority white population. For another, they only threaten to take our jobs, not to change our language, our food, and other aspects of American culture. You don't see food labels in English and Irish. When you call a business or government office, there is no option "for English press #1, for Spanish press #2, for Irish press #3 ..."
That wasn't always true though. In the 1870s and 1880s, there was considerable animosity against the Irish. But after that stormy beginning, there are now millions of Americans with Irish ancestry, particularly in Beantown, home of the Boston Celtics.
