Not Ready to Make Nice
I am sorry, I cannot forget all that we have been through. I know President Obama wants to promote bi-partisanship and says we are a purple America. But this very blue American has a deep rooted seething hatred for some red Americans.

Even on our greatest triumph in decades, the right wing has STOLEN the basic civil rights of AMERICANS in the state of California. Even thou we won, they have suppressed thousands of votes and are trying to tell Al Franken he is bad for wanting a rightly entitled recount.

All the lies, all the name calling. all the hypocrisy, all the projection, I cannot forget.

The Dixie Chicks great song Not Ready To Make Nice still is my theme song. I am not ready.

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

1. We can start talking about "making nice" when they agree to start using reality
rather than fantasy as their stepping off point. Until then, I see no reason whatsoever to acknowledge their paranoid fantasy world as real, and therefore credible.

2. there is a difference between "bury the hatchet" and "forgive and forget"
The latter is very, very hard to do.
The former is the pragmatic way to move forward. You don't forget the hatchet, and you don't forgive the other guy for all the bloody battles. You just agree to move forward constructively.

As the leader, the "bigger person", you suggest it, promote it, and probably forgive some minor slipups on their part. That doesn't mean you have to "make nice." Imagine you and someone you've been at odds with, whom you hate even, are suddenly dumped into the ocean with a single lifeboat and two oars. Are you going to agree to each take an oar, or are you going to sit there and namecall? Or let them row in circles? Or insist they aren't allowed to row, so you go in circles?

THIS REQUIRES BOTH SIDES TO PARTICIPATE. If they refuse, after a certain amount of time, you dig up the hatchet and whack them.
