I propose a permanent thread be established: The Change We Believed In....
What I envision would remain at the top of the page for four years. It would be the place for people to post each change Obama enacts. There'd be no discussion, just a crisp, clean list of Obama's accomplishments as they are achieved. Dupes wouldn't be permitted. It can't be allowed to turn into a cluttered mess.

This would give us easy access to talking points for the 2012 campaign, growing in real time, and it would serve as the link to give to freepers who want to trash our guy.

What do you folks think?

1. just as long as none of those damned "concern" whiners start talking
about the changes that don't happen.

2. Exactly. If they want to talk about that, they can post their fleeting threads.

3. more like "bleating" threads
They obviously hate all that we stand for. Don't they realize this is *Democratic* Underground. I bet they all secretly wish Mccain would have won.

We know what should be done with their kind, don't we?

They should be rounded up, placed on the rack and forced to confess their blasphemies. Then they should be excommunicated.

4. LOL ... I won't go quite that far. I might end up on the rack from time to time.
I don't want to discourage discussion in general -- just wouldn't want a list of Obama's accomplishments to devolve into that sort of thing. It would be a reference tool as I envision it.

7. It could even be a variation on the DU fundraiser animation
with "dominoes of change" toppling or some such.

10. I agree. Such a thread would be great, so long as it was strictly censored! nt

9. I 'd LOVE to see that, but only as one thread in a pair...
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 01:19 PM by mike_c
...with the second thread being the things people thought Obama was going to do or want him to do but he hasn't.

11. Maybe, but is it fair to fault him for what we "thought" he'd do (as opposed to what he "said" ....
...he'd do? I think we'll see threads about our disappointments every day, as usual. And discussion of those disappointments, along with calls to action to correct what we see as failures or work yet undone.

12. sure, but the point is that I'd like to see the actual balance sheet...
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 01:37 PM by mike_c
...maintained in an easy to digest form. The quality of any presidency is not measured so much by what they accomplish, but by what they accomplish that NEEDS to be accomplished. By the former measure Bush's presidency was a pretty good one-- he (or his administration) did lots of things. The problem was not that they didn't accomplish much, but rather that they didn't move much out of the "actually needs to be accomplished" column. Arguably, that column grew faster under the Bush administration than any other time in recent memory, so the defining characteristic of a poor administration is not always what they did, but what they failed to do.

A fair balance sheet needs both columns, IMO.
