MN - Essentially tied (razor thin for Coleman) - recount to proceed...this one is probably a coin flip unless some minor funny stuff went on that will be countered in the recount

AK - If Stevens does hold, he will need to leave - probably longest shot, though lots of ballots yet to count (if Stevens goes, I assume a Repub will replace him)

GA - Chambliss under 50, so will be rerun - depending upon the resources that can go into this (creative ads?), Martin could always win the rematch.

The repubs aren't going to filibuster even if we have only 56 or 57 seats, it would be political suicide.

It's every man/woman for themselves now in today's GOP. There will be a fight for the soul of this dead pachyderm. There's 2 or 3 major factions that want to claim ownership of the franchise, but that could take a year or 2 to shake out. In the meantime, those Senators who are up for re-election in 2010 are going to think long and hard if they want to join any obstructionist effort by Senate Republicans. I'd hate to have Barack Obama using his bully pulpit to put the spotlight on my vote as a reason change is being thwarted.

4. I'd love to see a grand bargin made with one or two of the remaining Republican moderates.

Olympia Snowe comes to mind. Maine's a solid blue state and she owes the Republican Party nothing. They stiffed her on the VP choice, in favor of a unprepared woman who is the darling of the Religious Right. Offer her a hi-profile cabinet post and maybe some desperately needed economic stimulus in Maine. Baldacci would then be free to replace her with Tom Allen. This could also work with Sue Collins, Arlon Spector, or Chuck Grassley. If there's a problem with Governor's choosing someone from the opposing Party, maybe they'd need to declare affiliation 1st.
