What the heck? Reading these Palin stories..

A donor offers to pay for 3 convention suits and 3 campaign suits... Palin returns with a bill of $150K!!!

Amazing.

1. It's typical Republican philosophy though isn't it?
They can't resist going on shopping sprees with other peoples' money.

It's why deficit spending for eight years has gone through the roof, it's why the National Debt has ballooned.

Palin went shopping with money that wasn't hers, she couldn't resist.

5. You hit the nail on the head, its exactly what our government does and
it proves we obviously need alot more regulation laws in place regarding the spending of the people's money because it is ours, some honestly forget that, and the ones that seem to forget it the most are the ones who are the receivers of those funds that come in the form of paychecks for supposedly jobs well done.

2. I don't understand this myself.
If you bought 6 suits for $1,000 each that is only $6,000. Throwing in some shoes and accessories may add another $500. You really have to wonder what she was thinking.

Maybe she got the wrong message when someone supposedly encouraged her to get that $2,400 Valentino jacket she wore at the convention speech. I have a jacket that looks a lot like that which I bought at Anthropologie for $148.

3. I read somewhere that the donor and the RNC thought she would only need 25,000.

9. She probably thought she "earned" that sort of expenditure because the rabid base loved her so much.
Just like any diva, actor or rock star who expects star treatment because they pull in the fans.

16. Wasn't there a stylist traveling with her that made $22k per week?
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 03:32 PM by Beaverhausen
gotta add that in, too.

edit- found something:

Amy Strozzi, who was nominated for an Emmy for her work on the reality show "So You Think You Can Dance?" has been traveling with the Governor as she campaigns for the White House. Records released this week show that she was paid $22,800 for the first half of October. A hairstylist, Angela Lew, was paid $10,000 for the same period.

11. Why would they buy multiple sizes?
That makes no sense and is bullshit. She is a standard size. She probably wears a size 4 in everything.

if she was really shopping herself, it makes NO sense!

13. did you say you were buying me lunch?
Then I am ordering steak.

So $150,000 was for six outfits? $25,000 per outfit. That boggles my mind. My house only cost $35,000 and it is the 3rd such building I have bought for that amount.

When I heard $150,000 I assumed it was for a more extensive wardrobe, not a more expensive one. $25,000 for one outfit is more damning than $150,000 worth of clothes.

14. She bought more than six outfits.
According to a writer at Newsweek, Palin also bought 13 suitcases to put all the clothes in.

15. The kind of person
who takes, and takes and takes. And expects it, because she's a narcissist. It's all about Sarah - why wouldn't we give her everything we have?

I commented on election night to my husband, "God, can you imagine what it would be like to be married to Sarah Palin?"

His comment? "You know he screws around on her, right?"

17. MORE than 150K, it turns out
NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.
