Would you want to play chess with President-Elect Obama?
The Republicans did, and lost. Hillary Clinton did, and lost.

I'm seeing a lot of second-guessing his decisions, not just here, but everywhere. That's fine - it's natural and certainly part of the post-campaign discussion.

It takes an amazing strategic thinker to get to the White House (unless, of course, you were born with a silver spoon up your nose.) To overcome the built-in odds of being the first African-American President takes even more strategic thinking.

The discussion over the appointment of Emanuel as chief-of-staff made me start thinking along these lines. I'm pretty sure Obama's about 15 moves on the chess board ahead of everyone.

Quit worrying. He's got this.

2. Heck yes. I'm not afraid to lose as long as it's just a game of chess and nothing too serious. (nt)

3. You kidding? Set up the board!
It's been forever since I played chess. I miss it. I'd like to try some of the other versions, too, including Byzantine chess (on a circular board) and even the original Indian version of the game, known as chauturanga.

And if Barack is my opponent in all three versions of chess, I'll be in hog heaven.

5. No I would lose badly, but at least I do know how to play chess. The
Republicans weren't even playing checkers. They were playing blocks, a game most two year olds love.

6. Actually, McCain's game is craps
and Obama's is poker.

In poker, you have a decision to make based on the cards you're dealt. Is it a good hand? If not, do you bet on and try to win the pot by bluffing or do you fold and wait for the next deal? Do you have enough to buy the pot? Does somebody else?

Poker, like chess, is a game for those who like to take calculated risks and remain cool under pressure. It's a lot more strategic than craps.

In craps, you make your bet, pick up the dice and hope for the best. Nothing terribly strategic about it. It's a game favored by those impulsive in judgment and hot headed in temperament.

14. I expect he's not very good at it.

Politicians tend to be great at psychology, language and social skills and lousy at math and logic.
