Good news for Barack Obama supporters.

His odds of bagging an electoral vote in Nebraska grew stronger this morning, with word that 10,000 to 12,000 early ballots and 5,200 provisional ballots are left to count in Douglas County.

Obama won about 61 percent of the early votes counted before Tuesday's election. If that percentage holds with the early ballots left to count, Obama stands a strong chance of winning the Omaha-area 2nd Congressional District.

Republicans did not concede defeat this morning, but they acknowledged the long odds.

"The election will not only be historical on the national level, history could also be made in Nebraska. The Obama Campaign is hoping to get one of the state's electoral votes. Even though electoral votes can be split in Nebraska, it's never happened.

<snip>

While Democrats hope to make history, Republicans plan to keep it the same, with no splitting of Nebraska's electoral votes. "It's never happened," said Quandahl. "It's never happened in the past and it's our job to make sure that it doesn't happen in 2008."

Nebraska has had the possibility of splitting its electoral votes since 1996, but it's never been done." link

1. Not all of NE, only the Omaha area.
NE has 5 Evs which aren't won as a block. Obama could win the 1 EV from Omaha. McCain will win the other 4.

4. Again, NE is NOT going D. Only the Omaha area. The rest of NE has already gone for McCain.

7. Oh yeah, NE & ME are those weird states that make themselves
irrelevant by spitting their votes in a winner-take-all system.

6. Oh, thank FSM. I was afraid we'd have a landslide on our hands.
