I know the governor of both states (democrats)is going to make the selection. Any ideas? If both appoint dems then this moves us up to 59 dems in the Senate. If any of the three dems still in contest, Begich (Alaska), Franken, or Martin (Georgia) win the Senate will be filibuster proof?

We need 61.

Also, some may cross sides for the exact reason of preventing such a majority.

If we get a "filibuster-proof" majority, it will still be shaky on important issues.

It really sucks that we have to hope for conditions that make it IMPOSSIBLE for us to lose out on legislation, rather than simply requiring our representatives to... represent us instead of rolling over for the powers that be. Or were? Maybe with Obama as president, some of our esteemed representatives will get spine grafts.

4. Biden's son is serving in Iraq. So the Governor will have to
decide to appoint either a placeholder who will step aside and not run in two years or a prominent democrat who will assume the office with the intention of running for it in two years. The only popular republican holding statewide office is Congressman Castle. He is not young, but still might like to run for the senate in two years. He has already been Governor. Lots of names are being tossed about. The Governor has not given the slightest hint of her thinking.
