Begich-Stevens Race Update
Not much new here, but it keeps us hopeful anyway

From Bethany Lesser at the Alaska Democrats:

Hey, just wanted to send you guys a quick update on what numbers we’re seeing today.

The latest information from the Alaska Division of Elections is that so far, there are 58,475 early and absentee votes that have not been counted yet, and 16,052 question (provisional) ballots left. That means there are up to 74,527 ballots left to be counted in the Alaska Senate Race.

Mark Begich is only down 3,257, so this race is far from over. As a side note, on Election Day, Begich won Elmendorf Air Force Base, Fort Richardson, and Fort Wainwright, bucking the notion that Republicans carry military bases.

I will send along additional information as we get it. Hope this helps – as always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

3. Great news...
Stevens has been a joke since the "series of tubes" incident.

Nothing would be better than the longest serving Republican Senator ever ending his career with a loss.

10. They're coming from everywhere
All of the election day ballots have been counted, I believe, but people who voted early between Thursday and Tuesday (from all over the state, I would assume) have not been counted, nor the absentees, nor the provisionals, so it should be pretty evenly spread.

But I'm with you -- those Valley voters are just nutz. I hope ALL of theirs have been counted already.

11. Thank you for the update
I just donated and e-mailed the campaign to let them know of my support. We must keep fighting. They are trying to raise 50k so that they can see this through.

I noticed that Anchorage Daily News has some articles about the unusual "low democratic turnout" and how it does not match the polling data and some articles about Palin too. I hope we can get rid of her! I can't stand her.

14. Did you see Shannyn on KTUU tonight?
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 10:21 PM by Blue_In_AK
She was very convincing. I mean, really -- how much sense does it make that 30,000 fewer Democrats would turn out in Alaska to vote for Obama than voted for Kerry in 2004. And that we would have the lowest turnout in a presidential election EVER. I don't think so.

12. On Rachael's show tonight that young guy that knows his polls (forgot his name) said that GA and AK
should have lawyers there as the numbers are not adding up for the Repubs there. I thought Palin's comment about not going back to AK very interesting and now I wonder if it is because she knows they are trying to fix (they probably the AIP) the election so she can get Steven's seat in a special election and spend lots of time out of AK.

13. It's not the AIP, it's the Republicans
I have no doubts.
