Al Gore On Capitol Hill Is The Defining Moment of His Life
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 10:22 AM by RestoreGore
For thirty years Al Gore spent his time in a beltway uncaring about a crisis that has now begun to take its toll on our only home. For thirty years he was excoriated, discredited, and made to look like a crackpot by those who placed their own self interests over the continued health and sustainability of this planet. For thirty years this man has passionately dedicated his life to warning people regarding what our behavior is doing to this Earth and that we better wake up before it is too late.

Now, this Wednesday, the defining moment in his life comes. The culmination of his passion comes to fruition. The moment when he can sit on Capitol Hill not as one of them, but as one of us speaking truth to power, and hopefully telling the truth as well about the absolute lack of morality on the part of this Congress of all parties for so many years in the dereliction of their duty as representatives of the people and citizens of this world. It will also hopefully be a moment that will not once again see our planet let down.

I have supported Mr. Gore for a long time now. I initially became a supporter of his because of his stances on the environment, and while what should have been during his tenure as VP was not accomplished, I do understand it was not because he did not try. To get only one Senator, Paul Wellstone to sign on with Kyoto was a damned disgrace. To have this issue ignored all those years ago when Mr. Gore invited Roger Revelle to the Hill because his vision and sense of morality had him thinking his colleagues would care when they really didn't was a disgrace. And to now see the absolute degradation of this planet at the hands of traitors to our Constitution who continue on in our White House is a crime against humanity.

Therefore, I cannot express in words the gratitude I feel in my heart for Mr. Gore now standing up as a statesman, a private citizen, a teacher, a businessman, an author, and most importantly a loving steward of this planet to advocate not only for those of us who see that bigger picture, but even for those who still to this day use his dedication and sincerity for their own ends and seek to undermine the progress we can make on this crisis if we all join together for the right reasons.

And that means you, Mr. Broad of the NY Times. Sean Hannity of FOX news, and all the rest of the politically toxic contingency that places politics before the true urgency and meaning of this. For even though you berate this man for partisan political reasons, he continues to advocate for YOU by speaking truth. Perhaps one day you will see that.

For me this Wednesday is not something to be used as a political campaign appearance or an attempt to do anything other than bring this truth to those who need it most. And for me there is no one who can effectively stand up for this planet as our Environmental Ambassador as Mr. Gore can do. However, will we truly see results? Will his appearance on Capitol Hill spark people into action and make them see their moral obligation? I really do hope so, but I fear the media will only see it once again as an attempt to paint this good man as he is not and attach a political motivation to it to take the focus off of their own dereliction of duty in getting this truth out to people. And to me that is unfair to this man, who to sit on this Hill this Wednesday will have thirty years of memories rushing through his head that led him and us to this point.

I will be there in spirit and heart Mr. Gore, and I will be listening, because we need someone to go on that Hill to speak as one of us for us and not walk on eggshells regarding this any longer. And for me, that someone is you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

2. Per CNN header I saw, the hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM

About time they covered him, since every damn speech he gave on this topic for the last six years has been blacklisted by them. I will not be watching it on CNN then, I will be racing home from work to try to catch as much of it as I can on C-Span since they at least covered some of his other speeches before he was considered "popular" enough by this corporate media to cover. But it's about time.

I cannot believe this. Is Mr. Gore being set up?

I wonder who talked Barbara Boxer into letting him come on as a witness.

8. He isn't being set up - he knows that this is the way the D.C. game is played...
The Majority calls a witness of tremendous stature - like Valerie Plame or Al Gore.

The Majority graciously allows the Minority to call a whiny-assed, paid-for-their-services witness like Victoria Toensing or Lomborg.

Most unbiased witnesses will listen to the testimony and conclude that the Minority is full of shit.

By the way - a fairly non-political friend who I took to see "Inconvenient Truth" last summer brought up Gore last night - attributing to him everything she has seen in the media taking the climate crisis seriously.

Also this past week, an anti-political friend who does repair/refurbish work on my home made a positive comment about Gore. Barry is a sort-of Libertarian who hates *all* politicians, but when someone brought up 2008 candidates - Barry brought up Gore and said he thinks that Gore could take the race. He saw Gore on the Oscar night and thought that the send-up he did with DiCaprio was funny.

I am most encouraged to hear these whispers...

9. Well, that's nice
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 01:15 PM by RestoreGore
And I have friends who think he has now found his calling and that he is too good for the political crap. But then, they are more savvy regarding keeping up with what is going on in that system than I suppose those who aren't political would be. Then again, I suppose we shall see, as I am sure his testimony will not then be discussed based on its merits, but only as it can once again be attached to those "whisperings" for maximum political benefit for those who seem to cannot do without that in order to discuss this crisis. Seems the media thrives on that as well. Such a shame that in this country people don't seem to be able to focus on an issue without gossip and "whisperings" attached to it.

12. I have every confidence he can as well
Those who asked him I am sure think it is a set up of Mr. Gore, but I believe they will get a rude awakening. Mr. Gore has truth on his side. I just get irritated at the flat earth society members in Congress that are doing this clearly to make it a partisan political issue.

16. Wouldn't it be something if Gore became the next president and
had to spend most of the term cleaning up after Dubya, the faux president?
