If Kashmir can be settled peacefully, and this is a tall order, Pakistan may be more able to concentrate on policing their own nation better along the northwest provinces.

If Islamic and Hindu relations can be improved, this may also curtail some religious extremism.

If Pakistan can cut military costs, they be may be able to educate and take care of their more needy citizens, thereby decreasing demand for the rote thought Madrassas.

I believe the easiest way for the U.S. to extricate it self from Afghanistan, leaving a successful government in place while also paying justice to Al Qaeda is to repair relations between India and Pakistan. I don't believe peace will ever come to Afghanistan for so long as India and Pakistan remain hostile to one another.

India is the largest democracy in the world and Pakistan potentially the most dangerous nation; should their government fall potentially allowing terrorists to obtain nuclear weapons.

It is for this reason, I would focus on mending their wounds and I believe some of our own would be healed as a result.
