lost their daughter/sister/mother-of-two on November 5th.
After a night of sheer relief and jubilation that Obama had won, I received a call from my friend in the late afternoon yesterday. She wanted to let me know that her sister had passed away at 11:15 a.m. I was in shock at the news. I knew she had been ill for a while but she pulled through some very serious moments and it looked as though she was going to make it. At least that was my impression from a call a few weeks back. My friend and I cried together on the phone as she told me what had been going on.
Here is the story she shared with me at the end of our conversation. She said that her sister started to decline rapidly over the past two weeks but was determined to vote and requested an absentee ballot which she got. She made her choice for Barack Obama. The family took care of the ballot for her and got her a sticker that said "I voted in **** County". They put it on her hospital gown for her and she was thrilled! November 4th came and her organs were shutting down but she fought to hang on long enough to hear the announcement that Obama was the President Elect. Soon after she quietly slipped into a coma and passed away the next morning. One of her Aunt's said.."I think she stayed with us to see her candidate win."
It's been hard to type this..... but I asked my friend if she would mind or if she thought anyone would mind if I shared this story (keeping names out of it for privacy) and she said "No. Please do". We both agreed it was a wonderful story and as my friend said "Maybe she will meet Toot."
To ****** ***** ...I will miss you dearly.
