WSJ: The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace
I don't think I've seen anything like this before. The rage and bluster is gone. Vanished.

Instead, it's an weepy lament for a gift spurned.

We failed him, Democrats and Republicans alike. Because we can't recognize dedication and nobility, we're not worthy of Bush:
...The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty -- a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Though not in the sense they meant it.

It sounds like they'd like the president to elect a new public.

"Mr. Shapiro is an investigative reporter and lawyer who previously interned with John F. Kerry's legal team during the presidential election in 2004."

Probably a turncoat then, a turncoat now.

Cher

p.s. oh and the crybaby face picture of bush is perfect for the story.

11. This is ridiculous....
Americans aren't the only ones who disapproved of Bush and his foreign policies. Which I think most of us would agree is the root of all evil in our current situation...THE ENTIRE WORLD HATED THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION....half the world's leader have declared America to be winning their place back in the world, by voting for CHANGE.

"Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hailed both Mr Obama's victory and her party's gains, saying the American people had spoken out "loudly and clearly" for change.
Blessing
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he was looking forwards "to an era of renewed partnership and a new multilateralism".
In Kenya - the birthplace of Mr Obama's father - President Mwai Kibaki declared a national holiday on Thursday.
Pope Benedict XVI asked for "God's blessings on the American people".
The BBC's Justin Webb in Washington says Americans have made two fundamental statements about themselves - that they are profoundly unhappy with the status quo, and that they are slamming the door on the country's racial past.
At the White House, Mr Bush told reporters: 'History was made yesterday.'
He congratulated the president-elect on an 'impressive victory' and said it represented strides 'toward a more perfect union'."

He talks about all the great things Dimson said at his inauguration and then acts as if he was sincere and carried through with those empty pledges of bipartisanship and unity instead of prancing off unilaterally to start an illegal and counterproductive war while pissing on our civil rights and wiping his ass on the Constitution. Did this dood simply miss all of that?

16. I agree with the headline too!!
As I will continue to say the duty of a patriot is never to trust those in power. We loan them OUR power and we always should question what they do with it.

The Bushies ran rampant over our Constitution and no one said much except here and a few other places. He amassed power almost equal to that of Hitler's enabling laws of the 1930's. (I don't use the the Hitler example promiscuously). Really, name me one power except state suppression of freedom of press/speech that AH had that Bush doesn't have RIGHT NOW.

Paul Krugman once said "We would be living in a dictatorship right now if they hadn't been such screw ups." :smoke:

19. I completely agree with the headline. Completely, 100%.
Our treatment of George W. Bush has been a disgrace. We have allowed this man to remain in office throughout his entire second term. He, his vice president, and his aides have been allowed to act without consequences. He's started a war based on lies, has been ultimately responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands, stood by like an idiot as New Orleans drowned, has bankrupted America, has completely undermined our position in the world, and has been lacking in every single component, no matter how small, of what it means to be President of the United States. His actions have made him a criminal many times over. Yet, he's getting to serve out his term in office, and apparently will be allowed to peacefully retire while a shrine is built for him at SMU.

Damn right it's a disgrace.

to read the article, and it is UNBELIEVABLE. "Bipartisan efforts".. I want to scream.

This is the price Mr. Bush is paying for trying to work with both Democrats and Republicans. During his 2004 victory speech, the president reached out to voters who supported his opponent, John Kerry, and said, "Today, I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust."

Those bipartisan efforts have been met with crushing resistance from both political parties.

edit: I think Rove wrote it.

32. This opinion piece is gutting me without a knife.
I am beyond stunned that there are still people who can write fantasy as if it were fact.

(I'll try to refrain from my over use of CAPS)

Very difficult time? WTF made it so difficult? George Bush.

WE have little character and resolve? MY GAWD. We LIVED through his reign of terror. That takes resolve.

He stood by us .. um . he questioned my patriotism. Said because I don't favor his blood letting, I'm not a patriot. I don't need those kind of friends standing by me.

Arrogance and Weakness. I crouched in my house filled with fear the first year and a half of his Residency. Very arrogant. Weak. Yes, I was. Until Howard Dean showed up with his fearless voice and said the things I couldn't, I was Weak.

....

This is all the more reason to impeach the sorry SOB.

Otherwise I will blow a gasket.
I can't deal with that kind of delusional thinking unless I know it is pure freeper.

I know this is EXACTLY what Bush is telling himself. He has to. He can't face himself as the miserable FAILURE he is. He sees now that it really is possible to have a consensus from the American public, and seeing what that looks like, he now covets.

He betrayed us and supported the wealthy, he had the most secretive administration in history, he expanded the power of the president way beyond what it says in the constitution, he spent more time vacationing than any other president in history, he cannot talk in complete sentences, he 'hears' god talking to him and lied us into a war, etc. We would stand by him if he stood by us. I don't think enough attacks were launched against Bush. If the media would have done its' job, things would be a lot different in our country. They covered for him for eight years and they are going to try to make us pity him as he goes out the door of OUR house. He should go out the back door today with the shame that he so deserves. Yesterday the media was all over the fact that Bush got a little choked up when he was doing his little media event yesterday. Who gives a shit? What about all of the tears that have been shed by the families of fallen soldiers? End of rant.

81. Maybe the author of the WSJ piece writes forwarded wingnut emails in his spare time.
Because that article sure sounds like a slightly more literate version of the latest email forwarded to me by Batspouse's dotty uncle in Texas. It was an fantasy transcript of Bush's imaginary farewell speech where he basically goes off on a self-pitying diatribe against that part of the country so desperate for change they actually support the Democratic ticket. Which meant they weren't even recognizable to imaginary Bush as real Americans. Oh, and they don't appreciate the great job he's done as Preznit because they are ungrateful, terrist supporting wretches who unfairly blame imaginary Bush for things that are not his fault. Needless to say, the list of things that are not imaginary Bush's fault encompasses pretty much the entire 8 year shitstorm we've been enduring.

Guess it's just the wingnut way: Arrogant, posturing bullies when in power; angry, self-pitying evaders of responsibility when things go south on their watch.

This is perhaps one of the most delusional article that I've ever seen written about Bush and how he has been "treated" during the past 8 years. I would highlight the notable lack of concern about how "You're either with us or against us" Bush and "go f**k yourself" and "so....?" Cheney treated us during the past 8 years (not to mention other countries and institutions- United Nations). There just isn't enough bandwith anywhere to fully document how poorly (to put it nicely) he's treated anybody and everybody who "wasn't with him" not to mention the new depths of political discourse that his (mis-)administration has plunged us into thanks to the prominence of Karl Rove.

Written by: "Mr. Shapiro is an investigative reporter and lawyer who previously interned with John F. Kerry's legal team during the presidential election in 2004".

:wtf:

editors have no problem with any of junior's policies and actions including: shredding the Constitution and discarding the rule of law; the doctrines of illegal pre-emptive wars of aggression and torture and rendition; ruinous fiscal policy featuring yearly massive budget deficits and surging Federal debt; grossly unfair and regressive tax policy; ignoring global warming issues; dissing science; a wrecked economy, capital markets, stock markets, jobs markets, runaway inflation, value of the dollar, our good name, and international law and organizations. I perceive the WSJ cares not a whit about any of these any more than the cadre of daily writers of LTTE of my local rag who rage about the outcome of the election and the coming "Socialist States of America" et al. :D

He is honest in his unbelievable attitude. The ruling class thinks so little of us peons that whatever they do they expect our undying gratitude.

How dare he call us, the American people, arrogant and weak while calling Bush dedicated and noble.

I could make a list of all the terrible things George W. Bush has done to the American people, not to mention killing hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi's (collateral damage of course), but it would do no good. Mr. Shapiro, like others in the ruling class, can rationalize whatever they do as the "right thing", because they believe they are the gods and we are the mere mortals.

George W. Bush will go to hell for what he has done and I think Mr. Shapiro should join him.

116. Here is my email to Mr. (spit) Shapiro
Mr. Shapiro, I am writing in response to your article in WSJ re. the treatment of George W. Bush.
I must say I disagree with you.

Mr. Bush deserves to be tried and hanged for war crimes.

I could list all the many, many, many things he has done to our country our democracy, but I am sure it would be wasted on you.

I will say that he is responsible for the murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians, many were children and he is responsible for the disruption of the lives of millions of other Iraqis. I am sure you can rationalize that away. But it was done either for greed or pride.

He has brought shame on our nation for supporting torture and extraordinary rendition.

He has destroyed our economy for the benefit of his rich fat cat friends.

I would say that you either are or think you are a member of the elite ruling class of this country. You have no feeling what-so-ever for the plight of the working class.

George W. Bush is a rich playboy that was given the job of President by the wealthy neocons and he deserves to be brought to justice.

Damn him, damn you.
