The rightwing and the Coleman Franken recount
Norm Coleman - Recount Volunteer Opportunities

Senator Coleman needs your help immediately!

I am sure you have heard the news already that Senator Norm Coleman has a very tight lead in his race against Al Franken. Because the race was so close, by state law there must be a recount. Team Coleman is in URGENT need of volunteers to serve at precincts throughout Minnesota to observe the recount process. It's imperative they locate 150-200 people who can take personal time from their respective jobs and lives and be deployed on behalf of Senator Coleman.

If you live in Minnesota, they need your help! If you live outside of Minnesota and are willing to come to Minnesota to help they also need your help!! The Coleman campaign must work through the recount process successfully and be sure Senator Coleman is properly represented. Deployed representatives can expect proper reimbursement and handling of travel expenses. More details are forthcoming later today.

Team Coleman will also need funding for the recount effort. In addition to all other contributions, individuals will be able to donate $2,300 per person or $5,000 PAC. More to come on this effort.

If you or those you know can take the time to volunteer and be deployed around Minnesota to represent Senator Coleman in this pivotal recount, please contact Tom McGill at 651-434-9735 or by email tmcgill@colemanforsenate

1. Yes, it is legal.
Each party is allowed to have the candidate and/or a representative for the candidate at the recount. The public is also allowed to view the procedures. The whole goal is for it to be an open and transparent process - which is how it should be!

Either the candidate or his/her representative - but not both - may challenge a ballot, but only with reasons (it clearly states that frivolous challenges are not allowed). Challenged ballots are set aside, and go before a canvassing board of five people (I believe it'll be two former State Supreme Court justices, two former attorney generals, and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie) for final decision.

You can read the 2008 MN Recount Guide - if you're into that! - right here.

2. Tell Them To Meet In Frostbite Falls...
It's been amusing watching the wingnuts become such election advocates this year...like it's a new thing. I'll bet Bev Harris is taking their money like it's going out of style...or will be shortly.

Thank goodness we have competent Democratic SOS's in states we didn't in 2004. Jennifer Brunner deserves a lot of credit for preventing Ohio from being a circus and it looks like the Minnesota SOS is going to do the same thing.

Coleman's so cheap he can't come up with the 90k for the recount...or maybe he's just trying to fleece the sheeple for a new set of fine threads.

Cheers...

4. This recount is required by state law.
It is being paid for by the taxpayers - not the campaigns. I wonder what Norman is planning to do with the money.
