Here are the people really to blame for Prop 8's passage:
Repukes: 86% voted for it v. 36% of dems. And:

Older voters. Older voters are heavily weighted against marriage for all.

1. And a brilliant Yes on 8 ad campaign.
Thank you Gavin Newsom for a great sound bite. Stay in San Francisco and yap all you want. Never come down south. We here in the Hollywood area have enough yappers. :smoke:

BTW I wrote one of the best essays for No on 8 of my life. It got published and quoted a lot. I just wish it worked better.

2. Cali, can you clarify that last statement. "Older voters are heavily weighted against ....
"Older voters are heavily weighted against marriage for all."

Do they mean old people are against marriage for everyone or just the gay community?

If they're against marriage for all, that is astounding! :P

3. sorry, I didn't phrase that well. I often refer to gay marriage
as marriage for all, because that's how I see it: Marriage for all people who care to enter into a union between two people. Older people are against extending marriage to all.

6. Older people are responsible for a lot of great things
All the progress that took place between their coming of age and their growing old is all thanks to them. We owe them gratitude and respect for what they have given us.

It's just that it's our generation's turn to leave a legacy for future generations. Time will turn things our way.

4. Your efforts are appreciated, cali....
...unfortunately, too many have been convinced by the "official-ness" of the polls declaring the situation a certain way. Many of the same people that have railed against Rovian/right wing tricks to divide us, have fallen for yet another divisive tactic--and a lot of people are being hurt in the process.

It's understandable that people are angry and hurting--mourning their loss. It's to be expected that some blaming and shaming are going to be part of that process. Unfortunate, but totally human. We need to allow everyone the time and space to grieve. Anger is to be expected, and it manifests in many ways that may not make sense to everyone.

I stopped paying attention to polls after the 2000 stolen election, as I realized the major media has a vested interest in lying to the masses. I'm cool w/being the little kid seeing that the empororer is butt ass naked. Maybe in time others will see what I do. Maybe not. I'm not going to insist. Everyone's entitled to their feelings right now, and it's understandable that people are feeling vulnerable and raw.

This too shall pass.

5. You can't expect older people to be for gay marriage
They were brought up in a more conservative time, we were brought up in a more liberal time. And by the time you get too old, you really can't teach an old dog new tricks.

my mum was 90 when my hubby and I married. She totally accepted him as her son-in-law. Sadly, she passed away 8 months after we married.
