We have enough in the Senate to prevent Puke Obstructionists |
|
We have 56 seat, as of right now. We have 3 races still in limbo(MN, AK and GA). And, we have Traitor Joe.
For any particular legislation, first the pukes would have to desire the risk of obstructing. They won't do this for everything. They will have to pick their battles. Without having to run cover for chimpy, they will be less beholden to lock-step.
There are some moderate repubbies who will join us if we need to stop obstruction. We only need lieberman, and 3 moderate repubbies. It can be a different 3 depending on the bill. If any of them want a voice in the government, of an opportunity to anything for their constituents, they will have to work with us.
We are holding all the cards. The Dems decide on what will come to the floor, and Obama will sign the final bills. It is in the Dems hands from start to finish.

1. We are not going to get to 60 even with Asshat Putz. |
|
It is very unlikely that Georgia and Alaska will go Democratic. We might get Franken.
However we will get way past 60 if the Republicans simply fillibuster everything. It will take two years. But Obama is smart. We will get legislation passed.

2. It's A Whole New Ballgame |
|
This session of Congress will operate completely different from the last one. The major reason is having a Democratic Administration. Most of the legislation will originate from there and the House & Senate Democrats will be in a supportive role rather than being at odds with the Executive.
The repugnicans will be the ones who will be hard-pressed to keep their bloc together. Moderates...especially those who face election in 2010...aren't gonna be so eager to jump of the political abyss with an Inhoffe or even McConnell and also go against a President who won with a majority of the popular vote (especially if it is from their home state). The onus is now on the GOOP to reach across and find Democrats or be totally ineffective...not the other way around...and being a total asshole won't get that done.
I think President Obama sees the tremendous opportunity he's been handed and he's going to put a team and plan in place to get a lot of things done. His legislative background will be a big plus...as well as having others around him...in crafting bills that will both address issues and pass into law.
Cheers...
