Palm Beach restaurant Owner posts KKK notes on election night
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/localnews/content/local_news/epaper/2008/11/06/bino_1107.html

"The white co-owner of a Palm Beach restaurant told her black employees they'd be fired if they voted for Barack Obama, and on the night of Obama's victory, she wrote "KKK" on their timecards and in notes she posted in the back of the restaurant.

"I wrote KKK all over. It was ridiculous and stupid," said Patricia Gatti, who co-owns 264 The Grill, a casual dining spot on South County Road. "I think I got crazy with FOX News, watching too much FOX News."

2. I'm sure this isn't an isolated incident
Stupidity is widespread and with it, racism. Many posts here on DU over the past days about blatant bigotry.

4. Hope all DUers in Palm Beach note the name of the restaurant
and boycott it or send messages about how bad the publicity is for it to the other co-owner.

7. Palm Beach is where Rush and Ann Coulter live
The Kennedy's used to.
There will be people who now flock there to be among the likeminded. No shame.

8. Blames it on Fox News...
...typical Republican: Does something disgusting and tops if off by then refusing to take responsibility for it. These are the people who voted McCain.

... that her behavior might be her own fault. This from the "personal responsibility" party.

Just that one time *wink*, *wink*

I'm not really like that.

Look, Obama was elected and they still have jobs.

uh-huh

You know the most upsetting piece of this? The last two paragraphs of the article. Specifically, the last line, but you need the other for context:
Watson, Gatti's black co-owner, was working the lunch shift in the restaurant kitchen this afternoon. He took a long view of the turmoil that a black presidential candidate has caused in his Palm Beach restaurant.

"I'm sure there will be a lot of craziness like this until everything smooths over," Watson said. "It's just one of those things that's going to happen."

That last sentence.

Look up some of the statements made by people trapped in abusive domestic relationships.

It is NOT okay and we should NOT accept it as "just one of those things that's going to happen".

15. My boss "joked" about the same thing...
yesterday. He has been incessant in bashing Obama and trying to convince me to vote for McCain. When he asked yesterday, I proudly admitted my vote was for Obama. He was visibly upset and made a "joke" about firing me. I shot back with what was in essence... "so what".... I'm a lawyer in DC and legal jobs here are a dime a dozen. Don't care about working at my firm much longer anyway. He's quite the annoying wingnut.
