Students told not to say Obama's name.
Some Pearl Students Told Not To Say Obama's Name
School Bus Driver, Coach Disciplined

PEARL, Miss. -- The Pearl Schools superintendent said that a school bus driver and a coach were disciplined for allegedly telling students not to say President-elect Barack Obama’s name.

Reporters with 16 WAPT News received several calls from upset parents that said a school bus driver told the children on a Pearl school bus that if they said Obama’s name, they would be written up and taken to the principal’s office for disciplinary reasons.

Another parent said that a coach at Pearl Junior High School told students that if they speak Obama’s name, they would face expulsion.

Snip:
"I did have two incidents and the principals did review the bus driver tapes. It appears that some persons, out of disappointment and disillusionment with the election, may have been so frustrated that they said something inappropriate to students,” Pearl Schools Superintendent John Ladner said. “We have taken appropriate steps with the bus driver and the coach.”

Disappointment and disillusionment? I find it strange that the superintendent would make excuses for those two people. At least it appears there will be some form of discipline for them. I can't imagine what those kids felt after getting put off the bus for saying the name of the newly elected President.

The more I think about it, the angrier I get. You're right, they should be fired.

11. Or then again it might be.
"I did have two incidents and the principals did review the bus driver tapes. It appears that some persons, out of disappointment and disillusionment with the election, may have been so frustrated that they said something inappropriate to students,”

Then again, he (Bus Driver) may have been trying to protect some kids from rabid McCain losers. He just went about it the wrong way. Focus should have been on actions not names.

Just saying.

snip from article:

Reginald Simpson said kids on the school bus were saying, "Obama is our president." That's when he said the bus driver told the kids not to say the president-elect's name because she didn't want to hear it.

18. I had dinner with various military intel last night
and that included a retired general. When I asked the group if they thought Obama would ask Powell to be Sec. of Defense, everyone said absolutely not. They're upset with Powell for having gotten involved in Obama's campaign. An MI guy, who can't stand Obama and is very angry with Powell, said that we would have an administration more left than we've ever had. I joked and said, "You're sitting next to a leftist." He shouted at me, in all seriousness, "I know you're a leftist! You're from San Francisco!"

The anger frightened me, and I relied on my friend to my left to get me into his discussion on the other side of the table.

27. I couldn't sleep last night, it was that disturbing
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 02:02 PM by lebkuchen
The MI guy was red in the face. It started out w/my question re: DoD choice, and after everyone said no way would Powell accept the position due to obvious reasons, the guy went into a diatribe about how Powell had been wrong to speak out, and he completely misinterpreted Powell's intent.

I said that I thought General Powell's comments were well-taken, and that I had appreciated them. I said that Powell had thought the debate had gone so off course on issues of no importance to the country, that he was attempting to resuscitate it from its death spiral and redirect attention to those issues that concerned the security of the country.

MI guy started hyperventilating over Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers, and he asked me what I thought about Obama cavorting with them. I said I wasn't willing to talk about Obama (I never talk politics with wingers; Powell was just an excuse to test the military waters), that the discussion was centered on Powell, but that I didn't care one wit about the Wright/Ayers issues. MI guy got red again and said that that was the problem. "You don't care! Nobody cares! They should care!" And then the comment about how the country was now going to go far left. When I joked that he was sitting next to a "leftist," it surprised me that he took it completely to heart, and then maligned everyone who lived in SF. (MI guy had tried to get me into a discussion about Gavon Newsom earlier, and I didn't bite, so I think he's majorly anti-gay.)

I felt that if MI guy ever got too much power, I'd be shot along with everyone within a ten mile radius of Powell/Market. This is why I don't want any active duty military unit policing any Americans.

I told my friend that these people would never be allowed in my house, ever, and that I need not be invited to any future events that involve them.

PS The general (ret) kept his mouth shut throughout, but I figured MI guy may have been grandstanding for him since they eat breakfast together every am.

35. I would expect another 74 days of spouting off, then zip
I assume this guy was an officer? I'm a fairly senior MI officer too, and although we have one or two outspoken anti-Obamists in my command, most people are either very pleased with the election results, or keeping pretty quiet if they're not. One or two have made negative comments since the election, and they probably feel they're ok to do so until 20 January. After that criticism of the president becomes a crime. As much as I detest Bush, I've been careful for the past eight years to make sure anything negative I say is in reference to his policies, and not the man himself. At least in the presence of other military. If he has any common sense, expect this guy's rhetoric to taper off about the second week of the new year.

As General Franks said on FOX, once the new president is inaugurated our institutional transfer of loyalty is pretty much automatic. That may not apply to everyone individually, but the system exerts tremedous pressure to conform and comply.

28. I concur
Read my post above.

You can't talk to a winger. They are too reactionary and explosive. There is no reason involved in their thought process, and their "take" on recorded events is completely opposite that which had been developed on film. You have to be living in the depths of manic denial with magic glasses to come up with some of the interpretations of reality these nuts contrive.
