My own unofficial poll on why Prop 8 ended the way it did
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 03:10 PM by SoCalDem
I have been asking everyone I know , for the last few days, and this is the consensus.

As unbelievable as this sounds, some people did not vote at ALL..

why?

East coast results made CA "redundant", and they were "busy", "stuck at work", "left for work too early (4M)-got home too late (7:30)", "just voted for president & congressperson", "forgot to change address, and had to vote provisional ballot", etc.

Our ballots are LOADED with all kinds of LONG, and almost impossible to read pros & cons for MULTIPLE propositions. Often they are worded so that a "NO" often approves the proposition.

Ads run non-stop, and yet, often it's hard to understand what they are saying, because they are all misleading.

Some people only vote on propositions that may personally affect them or their own families, and then skip over the others.

Of course a niche group of devoted, pre-programmed zealots CAN, and often do get some really unusual things approved. Many of the younger home-buyers notice this when they get their first real estate tax notices (Prop 13)..

I really do not think there was malicious intent by any liberal groups to "pass prop 8" ..I think it was just another accident of omission, and probably a big dose, of "surely THAT will not pass"...but it did

WE voted against it in this household, but I fear many others did not even vote for any of those things..

I LOATHE the whole proposition thing.. it circumvents the legislature, and allows outside money from rich people with an axe to grind, to force their quirky ideas into the laws of our state..a state that many of them do not even call home:grr:
