America----Love It or Leave It
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 07:04 PM by louis c
I know, I know. I'm a product of the sixties and I hated that slogan. I would argue long into the night about the difference between disagreeing with the policies of the government while you still could love and support your country. As a matter of fact, that's what the democratic fabric of this nation is. That was our foundation which was established in the bill of rights.

However, the right wing always used that against us. A simple bumper sticker slogan which implied, "Hey asshole, if you don't like it here, get the fuck out."

Well, now I need all of you to indulge me as I extract revenge for my 40 years of hearing that slogan shouted at me. From the Viet Nam war to labor organizing. From the Iraq war to supporting a black guy for president because he believes in the same things as I do.

Now, I seek out my relatives and Friends that used that slogan against me, who now are sick to their stomachs that a true progressive is going to be president, and African-American at that. When I find them, enter into the discussion, and they inevitably blow their tops at that prospect, my reply is, "America, love it or leave it. If you don't like it here, get the fuck out."

Am I suppose to be having this much fun?

3. I think that's an EXCELLENT idea/response. Thanks! I always hated the 'Love it Or Leave It'
bullshit too, for many reasons. Why do people think it's OK to find problems with, and improve, a business, car, kid, park... just about ANYTHING - but you can't say anything is wrong with *the country*? Makes no sense, logically.

6. Today (Sunday) is my last day to use this line
I promised myself that I wouldn't use it after today.

But boy, did I have fun today.
