Poll: 64 percent of Republicans want Palin to run for president in 2012
from ThinkProgress:

Poll: 64 percent of Republicans want Palin to run for president in 2012.»

In a new Rasmussen poll out today, Republicans overwhelmingly say that they want Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as their presidential nominee in 2012. Sixty-four percent of GOP respondents said that Palin would be their top choice in 2012:

When asked to choose among some of the GOP’s top names for their choice for the party’s 2012 presidential nominee, 64% say Palin. The next closest contenders are two former governors and unsuccessful challengers for the presidential nomination this year — Mike Huckabee of Arkansas with 12% support and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts with 11%.

Three other sitting governors – Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Charlie Crist of Florida and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota – all pull low single-digit support.

In the same poll, 69 percent of Republicans said that Palin “helped John McCain’s bid for the presidency,” even though exit polls found that 60 percent of voters felt that she was “not qualified to be president if necessary.” (HT: John McCormack)

21. I find that statistic EXTREMELY hard to believe...however, if that's what they want...
I'm all for it.

However, most people republican and Dem alike, think that she was tremendously detrimental to McCain's campaign, and only the most rabid right wing extremists (about 25 percent) actually like her.

But still, I'm all for the press pushing that inflated number. Let her run. She will be shredded.

I predict nobody will remember her name a month from now.

27. They won't in four years.
The Republican establishment is going to thoroughly demolish Palin over the next four years. They're going to use her as the prime example of why Republicans cannot afford to pander to evangelicals with anything more than rhetoric.

Seriously, I think the Republican establishment was disturbed by the Palin phenomenon this year. The evangelical problem-- something they've all seen coming for years-- finally came to a head. Evangelicals tired of being held at arm's length and demanded one of their own on the national ticket. And worse-- their influence within the party had grown so much that this demand had to be taken seriously.

The traditional owners of the Republican Party do not want to reliquish control to a bunch of loony theocrats. Just as the DLC fights constantly to marginalize the left, the corporate section of the GOP is working to exorcise the evangelicals-- or at least stick them back in their impotent box.

37. Yep- I couldn't believe it when McCain picked her.
It took all over 2 hours' searching to see he'd just ended his chances of winning. The woman was a wreck out of the box, and she just kept delivering.

Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 12:56 AM by Juche
Seriously. What is wrong with people? She is a fricking retard and totally unqualified. Its probably not a coincidence that the GOP does better among 'less educated' people as the pollsters like to say. I have seen polls for examples where clear majorities of independents and democrats believe in evolution, but it is reversed for GOPers.

Religious nuts and high school dropout rednecks are all they have left. Fuck em.

Unfortunately, the Repuke leadership isn't stupid enough to let it happen--even if the majority of the rank-and-file kool-aid drinkers are.

39. I would say, "so do I' -- but I would be somewhat concerned about a historic accident -
- some unanticipated turn of events - then America and the whole world would really be in trouble.
