The GOP was very influential in the last redistricting effort. Given that, it's amazing that
the Democrats have 255 seats in the House. In 2010 the Democrats will have the upper hand with redistricting. The Republicans were able to maintain a much smaller majority for 12 years.

I think the Democrats will be in the majority for the next 20 years.

1. Wish we could help from Texas
But we bucked the national trend and stayed Republican. I guess we'll get to watch another Flight of the Killer D's in 2010. Bummer.

4. There's still time! Census figures won't be in until late 2010.
Redistricting typically doesn't happen until after the election.

So if you can turn some reps/sens from R to D in 2010, you could assure fair (or better) redistricting in TX!

5. It would be nice
But I don't hold much hope of that happening. Texas is a whole different kind of crazy.

Thanks for the boost, though. A little optimism helps, I much appreciate it :hi:

3. I remember lawsuits galore by the Republicans here in NC to redistrict
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 10:55 PM by Jamastiene
my district so that it leaned more Republican. It didn't though work out for them though. My district went Democratic. It backfired on them big time.

I guess they didn't take into account that
a. we really hate outsiders trying to change what we already have set up in our area
b. we are poor enough in my area of the state to know that we'd never survive if we were "districted" with the richer areas.
c. we really hate government waste and the Republicans were wasting precious state resources to try to stack the deck in their favor.
d. Robin Hayes fucked himself royally when he voted for SAFTA and CAFTA. With the redistricting, they included more of the industrial poor areas into his district. He wanted to play off of the poor rural uneducated status of many of the voters here. Then, he swore up and down he'd vote against CAFTA and SAFTA, then voted for them. Tsk. Tsk. You take away a person's livelihood, you take away their dignity and their chances at survival. You are cutting them to the bone when you do that. You PISS THEM THE FUCK OFF when you do that. After that, no amount of playing on their prejudices will matter. Ta-ta, Hayes. Ta-ta, Dole. You can keep the shovels and the dirt you used to dig your own political graves. Lucky for us, you don't even live here, so you won't be stinking up the place now that we are rid of you.

God, that felt good...UNBELIEVABLY good.
