Lobby governors of Delaware and Illinois to appoint women to U.S. Senate
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 10:44 PM by Dems to Win
Many women are deeply disappointed this year that there will be no woman in the White House. While we celebrate Obama's victory, we also continue to look forward to the first woman president. In order to elect a woman president, we need a big farm team -- we need to continue to work toward electing more women at all levels of government.

We need to have lots of viable contendersI have written to the governors of Illinois and Delaware, asking them to appoint women to replace Senators Obama and Biden. I invite others to do the same.

We increased the number of women senators by one on election day -- pretty slow progress. It would be great to add 2 more.

Governor Ruth Ann Minner of Delaware

Governor Rod R. Blagojevich of Illinois

The brief message I sent: (I figure there was no point in writing anything lengthy)

Please consider appointing a competent, qualified woman to the open U.S. Senate seat.

Woman made a net gain of one seat this election, but we continue to be far from half of the Senate. It would be terrific if we could add one more to the ranks.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best regards,

That said, I would love to see Jan Sharkowski get the job here in IL. I'd also like Jesse Jackson Jr.

5. It should be the best qualified person
we just saw what you get when you use gender as the only criteria for choosing, we do not wish to go down that road again, do we.

10. I got nothing wrong with it being a woman
what do you have against it being a man. Why? Because there are already men in the senate. So a qualified candidate should not be chosen because they happen to have certain parts other then someone else. This does not sound like equality to me.

11. Because men are OVER represented in the Senate, and women are UNDER represented in the U.S. Senate
