The Hague for Bush & Blair???
I'm shocked this is even being talked about...

TONY Blair could face the prospect of an International Criminal Court investigation for alleged coalition war crimes in Iraq. The court's chief prosecutor said at the weekend that he would be willing to launch an inquiry and could envisage a scenario in which the British Prime Minister and US President George Bush could one day face charges at The Hague.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo urged Arab countries, particularly Iraq, to sign up to the court to enable allegations against the West to be pursued. Iraq's ambassador to the United Nations said that his country was actively considering signing up.

...

Some Muslim countries have criticised what they claim is the court's reluctance to deal with offences committed by Western governments. Sudan has called for the court to investigate coalition actions in Iraq.

12. Tweety told us last nite that Cheney is leaving the country.
I assumed he was heading to Paraquay. Maybe he's packing his suitcase to get ready to go to the Hague.

2. One of the problems with neo-colonialism (as opposed to the old-fashioned kind) is that . . .
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 11:11 PM by Jack Rabbit
. . . the mother country actually has to give the colony some room for independent action.

I'm sure it wasn't the neocons' idea when they got into this thing that the Iraqi government would ever contemplate signing the Treaty of Rome in order to prosecute them. And Bush, too.

Oh, there is hope, there is hope.

16. Don't forget the guys in the OSP/PNAC
Office of Special Plans

The Office of Special Plans (OSP) was created by Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld to help create a case to invade Iraq. OSP evolved from the Northern Gulf Affairs Office, which fell under the Pentagon's Near East and South Asia policy office. It was renamed and expanded to the Office of Special Plans in October 2002 to to handle prewar and postwar planning.

SNIP...

Leadership

Paul Dundes Wolfowitz, OSP architect
Douglas Jay Feith, Undersecretary of Defense (OSP reports to)
Steven A. Cambone, Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence
Abram N. Shulsky, Director of Office of Special Plans
William Luti, Undersecretary of Defense who "oversees the OSP"

13. Don't Think Impeachophobes Like Pelosi And Obama Are "Off The Hook"
Yes, Obama too.

The treaties make clear that ALL Gov't official have a duty to report and ACT to stop ongoing torture and war crimes. There are no exceptions for election fever or "fear of divisiveness" or anything on the http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Senator/14">list of rationalizations for inaction (no, not even imagined futility).

International action is simply a recognition that the (former) US is incapable of meeting the treaty obligations that our greater generations fought and died to forge. This leaves even DC-Dem Impeachophobes in the category of "Nuremberg defendants" -- those who treat the unconscionable as political business-as-usual.

We simply can't "make/change the rules" here. And http://www.talkingimpeachment.com/blog/Hall-of-Shame-Inductee----Barak-Obama.html">cowering has consequences.

Impeachment -- then prosecution -- for torture remains our ONLY moral, patriotic obligation.

There is no reason to audaciously hope for any substantive change-to-believe-in without it.

I read a while ago that * made a deal. (Probably to save his sorry ass). This could be why impeachment was off the table. (A solid D win).

15. Good, I hope this does not fall along the wayside and that justice will finally occur..
too many think we should just ignore what happened, but in my opinion, we will never fully heal until those that caused the wounds are made public and face criminal charges...
