3. Knee Jerk Reactions

It's one of those knee jerk reactions to which the cons are prone. Most, wouldn't be able to tell you what socialism is if you asked them to define the word. Additions to your list:don't call the fire department if your home burns down, don't call the police if you get mugged, raped or murdered, don't send your kids to school,don't expect to get electricity etc., etc.

Don't try to tell them that people living in socialist countries are the happiest in the world and are taken care of from cradle to grave.

Had that very conversation earlier this week.

The person votes Repub but when taking the political compass test places in the lower left quadrant with Mandala and Ghandi. To their credit the person did admit not understanding what socialism is - probbly true since they were educated in a rural school in a very red state.

though pugs talk of deregulation, most want the security of the Feds protecting their investments (is it more than 100 K now?), especially with so many bank failures.

It doesn't seem to matter with the nuts I work with - socialist/communist is the new insult since liberal doesn't seem to scare people anymore... They don't care what it really means. I think Rush and Sean use it as a generic insult.
