This Dem uncertainty about what to do with Lieberman is exactly
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 12:46 PM by marylanddem
what is wrong with our party leadership. For God's sake, the man stood behind McCain at every fucking function - and they are still DELIBERATING on his future committee assignments??? The old boys club in full swing. I hope Obama can kick some ass over there & get Lieberman thrown off of every committee.

4. There are lots of reasons I hope Obama doesn't have to become
embroiled in this fiasco. I have every confidence that Obama will do the right thing, but it could come off as petty and vengeful, and that's not how Obama has run his campaign. I hope Liebermann is dealt with swiftly, but I hope it doesn't hinge on Obama's involvement.

11. Obama can throw his weight around anytime he wants to.

Shit, he can even get angry now. About fucking time, too.

12. While I agree with you about Joe, I still hope it doesn't come down to
Obama's vote. I don't think this is his first order of business.

and Pelosi seems to be driven by those same motivations.

Being more interested in decorum than effective aggressive pursuit of progressive goals is something I just don't get.

it right. Hopefully, it gives him an out - resignation - converting to Republican. I can see that he would want to think it through and consult with his backers who as we know consists of some loyal Dems and manipulative Republicans. I think it's right to do it in steps. They can still say no. I don't want him, anymore, personally. I have ranted repeatedly against him (which is a big change from my endorsement of him in 2000 - I watched him change to be a traitor and I'm not pleased). Now, I think a civil ending is in order.

There is talk about whether the total vote might come up to 60 if he stays, but I think that is a farce because we never know how Landrieau and one or both of the Nelson's, Salazar will vote. And we don't even know how Feinstein, Schumer, or Inouye will vote, for that matter.

13. First, the President doesn't get openly involved in Senate...
business. It's that separation of powers thing.

Then, Lieberman's involved with a lot more than supporting McCain and the war. His record on such things and the environment is actually pretty good and he's a useful ally.

And last, there's a good chance he'll be around for a while, and he can be not only a good ally, but a dangerous enemy.

(things are rarely as simple as they seem from the outside)

15. wow! a reasonable post!
Lieberman should be punished by taking away his homeland security chair IMO... but, like you say - he is an ally in a lot of areas, and forcing him into the Republican caucus doesn't make a lot of sense.

14. I don't understand why Democrats don't take a vote on Lieberman. Is there one
senator with enough guts to propose a vote up or down on him?

16. The simple reason the Senate Dems are hesitant with Lieberman
...is because they LIKE him. They REALLY like him.

So said Craig Crawford on Countdown last night.

So it's not even an old boy's club. It's more like high school where the jackass gets to slide on everything because he has all the friends.
