DU Theists, Atheists and assorted everyones - Truce?
Things got out of hand in some threads - and I would be remiss if I were to not accept guilt.

Prop 8 is a very emotional subject for many of us - gay and straight alike. We want that more perfect union, that union that accepts ALL of its members, no matter their backgrounds and proclivities. Prop 8 was a step in a backwards direction, and many of us are sore about that.

So be you a Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic, Buddhist, Hindu, Rastafarian, Druze or Mormon - we have to turn this piece of legislative hate around. We need to protect ourselves from tyranny of the majority.

Yes, most Californians are against gay marriage. Fuck 'em - they're bigots. This is why we have courts and 'Activist Judges.' I say bring on the activism! Bring on the shame for the bigots who voted for Prop 8.

I made a point of pointing this out to a neighbor - that he was a bigot. He didn't like my assessment, but he couldn't defend himself. We could all do well to point this out to our neighbors. Think of a Yes on Prop 8 sign no different than an effigy of Obama, or a KKK flag or burning cross on a lawn. It's bigoted hatred, pure and simple.

1. I agree. Fighting ourselves and not the outcome will solve or change nothing.

5. When it comes to gay marriage, not all theists are bigots, but all bigots are theists.
Religion -not bigotry - sits at the heart of bigoted initiatives like Prop 8 passing. THAT is the elephant in the room, and that's the reason that atheists like me are so outraged.

6. Yes but I'm not going there from here anymore
Because if we expect to overturn this piece of crap, we will need all the help we can get, theists and atheists included.
