Obama Positions Himself to Quickly Reverse Bush Actions on Environmental, Social Issues

By Ceci Connolly and R. Jeffrey Smith
Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, November 9, 2008; Page

Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse the president on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team.

A team of four dozen advisers, working for months in virtual solitude, set out to identify regulatory and policy changes Obama could implement soon after his inauguration. The team is now consulting with liberal advocacy groups, Capitol Hill staffers and potential agency chiefs to prioritize those they regard as the most onerous or ideologically offensive, said a top transition official who was not permitted to speak on the record about the inner workings of the transition.

In some instances, Obama would be quickly delivering on promises he made during his two-year campaign, while in others he would be embracing Clinton-era policies upended by President Bush during his eight years in office.

1. Undo Them ALL!
And disinfect the White House, while we're on the subject of cleaning up after the Bushwhacker.

5. How about FISA, the 700 BILLION DOLLAR Bailout, and the Bankruptcy Bill?
Obama needs to hold corporate america accountable since their greed has pretty much ruined this country.

Which is why I'll believe there's actually gonna be "change" when I see that the corporate stranglehood on this country gone.

30. Disturbing: The "Big Change"--and No Consequnces for ANY Bush-Cheney Crimes!
These things bother me too, the fact that Obama has made several Senate votes that are rather outrageous--warrantless spying on Americans, the huge bailout that will now apparently pay only for bonuses and dividends, extensions of NAFTA-style "free" trade--and silly promises of "tax cuts" (especially capital gains taz cuts!?), and people just ignore it all. When Hillary Clinton does these things, people rightly call her an anti-American corporatist. Rahm Emanuel was an investment banker, Joe Biden wrote the horrific and punitive Bankruptcy Bill that only hurts the people, not corporations, and what has been making me increasingly angry over the past few days is the recognition, really real now, that these grinning, self-congratulating Democrats are not going to punish any Bush-Cheney official--not Bush, not Cheney, not Rove, not Rumsfeld, not Paulson, not Alberto Gonzales, not Wolfowitz, nobody--for anything that was done, over all these years. I have never heard of behavior like this before--where there were outrageous crimes, on many levels, committed, and no consequences of any kind! It really is a cozy, friendly, little, closed, bi-partisan corporate club, of lobbyists and hacks.

49. Can you have any faith in the President Elect that he will do as he said he would? Look into any
crimes committed when he took office? Just because he's not telling you he's doing it, doesn't mean he isn't.

50. Exactly. And you know who Obamas biggest donors are? Bankers, naturally.
Looks like Obama & Co won't be serving up hope & change but rather more of the same crap we've been served ever since Reagan! :puke:

Bankers were biggest donors to Obama

ANDREW CLARK in New York

BARACK OBAMA owes Wall Street bankers a debt of gratitude for generous campaign donations as he ponders how to cope with a financial crisis that poses challenges over government aid and regulation for the banking industry.

Staff at banks, Silicon Valley technology firms and universities topped the list of contributors to Obama's record treasure chest of $640 million (€503 million).

Goldman Sachs was linked to more donations than any other company, as its employees and their families provided $847,207 to the successful Democratic candidate's fundraising machine.

People associated with JP Morgan provided $581,460 and donors linked to Citigroup gave $581,216, according to figures culled from public disclosures.

8. This is the best news I've heard in 8 fucking years. I would sit there on day one
and make a god damn mess of every piece of legislation that pig-guts, shit-for-brains, monkey-face, dick-head ever put a pen to. And that's just day one. My hand would be hurting. They'd have to ice it down. "Another pen, Mr. Obama? That one seems to be running dry?" "Why, yes, another pen would be wonderful. Just pull one out of the barrel for me there. Yes you can."

essentially saying he could ignore it if he wanted to.

13. I just saw Obama's biography
on t.v. It was on cable channel A&E Biographies on Demand. Anyways, after watching it, I feel I have a better understanding about who Obama is. I really didn't know his past or how he got to this point in his life. He used his "Yes We Can" mantra when he ran for Illinois State Senate. His message has not wavered. I truly believe he wanted to be president to change the world. This is not an ego trip for him, as it would have been for McCain and Palin. He wasn't high-fiving everyone and jumping up and down when he won. He was somber and quiet. He looked humbled and tired. He fully understands what we Americans expect for him to do. He fully understands what the past administration has done to this country. He means business. I think people are over thinking and overly agonizing about his Chief of Staff Pick, Rahm Emanuel. This man will get Obama's agenda done. I don't care if Rahm may think differently about policies. It's not his job to make them. All I care about is PROGRESS. I want Obama to make nice with Russia, Iran, and everyone else in the Middle East. I want there to be peace. I want the World to respect us again. If the rest of our Country cannot get over their "fears" and "racism", then to hell with them. WE will continue moving forward without them. Eventually, they will have to concede defeat and jump on board. This will be one hell of a ride. I cannot wait.

We've got a real president. Someone who uses his brains. Someone who cares about this country, not just about his cronies and the money that they can fuck America and Americans out of.

Oh my God, I just can't believe it. It's like we're awakening from a long national nightmare. And not just that. Here is someone who is actually doing what he said that he would do, during his campaign. A man of honor.

I'd really rather the Bush Crime Family didn't know about this, if you know what I mean? Less chance of them trying to take some sort of preemptive measures to keep that from happening.

45. I've got an easier and quicker way to handle it...
"I Barack H. Obama, in my capacity as President and Chief Executive of the United States, do hereby negate and declare null and void all Executive Orders issued from the White House beginning January 20, 2000 thru January 19, 2009. /s/ Barack Obama, President, United States of America."

There y'go. One signature. Quick and easy, and no hand-spraining involved. On the off-chance that shit-fer-brains actually issued an EO or two that were actually beneficial to the American people, they could be easily specified and omitted from the list (Lord knows, there wouldn't be that many of them).

48. Probably not, and probably not. But then, the definition of "legal" HAS become somewhat stretched...
It would work for ME, but I'll sometimes tend to use a meat cleaver when a scalpel would be more appropriate. Obama is taking a more studied approach, and that's probably best for all concerned -- if not as immediately cathartic.
