Using computers to share information/data is one thing, but we need nothing more fail-safe and reliable than an Asian abacus for counting votes (actually, to be more American, the Incan quipu or the native Mesoamerican mechanical computer, aka the nepohualtzitzin, would be completely appropriate for counting large sums of votes). And everything on paper!
