Forget McCain and Palin -- the GOP Has Deeper Problems |
|
http://www.theusdaily.com/articles/viewopiarticle.jsp?id=1460&type=Opinion<snip>To put it bluntly: Democrats are moving from a room of their own to an apartment of their own on the way to a home of their own; Republican voters, by contrast, are moving from their own home to the retirement home to the nursing home and the funeral home.

1. The demographics are definitely in our favor |
|
I don't foresee any possibility that repugs can recruit new members in numbers that amount to anything.

3. The operative word being 'minority' |
|
If I believed that authoritarians were the majority, I would have sucked a tailpipe a long time ago.

Sure, the demographics are in our favor. Very much so, thankfully! But remember what happened just 8 years after the 1964 landslide? 49 states went to Nixon. GOP as it is cannot recruit any new members, but the GOP will change over time. Whether for their benefit or not, I don't know. Andrew Sullivan has had a lot to say about the GOP civil war recently, often comparing it to the Tories in the UK after 1997. If there is any way to exploit their current disarray to our long term advantage, I hope we do so...

control and won't let go. As long as the extreme evangelical/fundamentalist population exists, the republicans will be dominated by them.
