An appeal to Christians (and Jews and Muslims) of all races and ethnicities...

Please fight the literature and ideas of this global movement in your churches, synagogues, and mosques. The Watchmen movement (although not always called this by name) is a very dangerous global ideology hiding behind a mask of hijacked liberal terms such as "human rights" and "multicultural."

The anti-gay marriage movement is heavily influenced by the literature of this very violent core of holocaust revisionists who seek to claim that gay people caused the holocaust. It touts itself as being a multicultural "human rights" organization to protect "oppression against Christians". Its ideas filter into the mainstream fundamentalist churches. It is also sometimes called the "New Generation Church"

Its ideas are seeping into our churches. One of its members was even sent to Latvia by the Bush Administration as a Special Envoy from the White House for Faith-Based Initiatives (and promptly investigated by the FBI.)

From the Southern Poverty Law Center:
http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/intrep.jsp?iid=42

"Lively credits the popularity of Russian-language translations of The Pink Swastika to the support of Pastor Alexey Ledyaev, the head of the New Generation Church, an evangelical Christian megachurch based in Riga, the capital city of Latvia. New Generation has more than 200 satellite churches spread throughout Eastern Europe, Argentina, Israel and the United States."

"The Watchmen movement's strategy for combating the 'disease' of homosexuality calls for aggressive confrontation...Lively identifies 'the enemy' as not only homosexuals, but also what he terms 'homosexualists,' a category that includes anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, who 'actively promotes homosexuality as morally and socially equivalent to heterosexuality as a basis for social policy'...When he personally confronts the enemy, Lively practices what he preaches when it comes to "battle-hardened" tactics. He recently was ordered by a civil court judge to pay $20,000 to lesbian photojournalist Catherine Stauffer for dragging her by the hair through the halls of a Portland church in 1991.

Murdered by practitioners of this movement in 2007.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — On the first day of July, Satender Singh was gay-bashed to death. The 26-year-old Fijian of Indian descent was enjoying a holiday weekend outing at Lake Natoma with three married Indian couples around his age. Singh was delicate and dateless — two facts that did not go unnoticed by a party of Russian-speaking immigrants two picnic tables away.

2. Thanks for sounding the alarm
I wasn't aware of this group either. I've heard of the huge rise of neonazi groups in Russia over the past few years, though. There have been numerous attacks in Russia on foreigners, particularly foreign workers, by these groups. It sounds like there might be a link.

the Sufis I know look on gays/lesbians as our brothers and sisters, with the same rights as everyone else. Since one of our own was a hero in the French Resistance and killed during the Holocaust, rest assured we know that gays weren't the cause of it.

8. Who was the sufi killed in the French Resistance?
By the way, I really think sufism is a beautiful religious practice. If I were to pick one, it'd probably be my top choice. I like Rumi's poetry of course. I'm trying to learn Persian/Farsi.

11. Noor Anayat Khan: The princess who became a spy
She was a Sufi pacifist who fought for Britain and died at the hands of the Gestapo. As a new biography separates truth from myth, Boyd Tonkin celebrates the remarkable Noor Anayat Khan

Published: 20 February 2006
This is the story of a young Indian Muslim woman who joined a secret organisation dedicated to acts of sabotage, subversion and terrorism across Europe. A fierce critic of British imperialism, she worked with passion and audacity to damage and disrupt the forces of law and order. Captured, she proved impenitent and uncontrollable. She died a horrific death in custody. And now, perhaps, is the right time to revisit the life of Princess Noor-un-nisa Inayat Khan, George Cross, Croix de Guerre with gold star, MBE: the British secret agent who was kicked into a "bloody mess" on the stone floors of Dachau concentration camp through the night of 13 September 1944, and then shot with the word "Liberté" on her lips. Hers, after all, is a remarkable chapter in the history of Muslims in Britain and the West.

5. there was a book written in the 90's called "The Pink Swastika"
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 10:51 PM by jonnyblitz
which claims essentially that Hitler and the Nazi's were gay and that the basis for all the bad that happened from the Nazi's was homosexuality. They then equate the current US gay movement with nazi germany. I am paraphrasing badly off the top of my head but this is what i remember. i actually bought the book and read it. THis book was quite popular amongst the far right when it came out. the title of the book is a take off on a popular book about gays during the holocaust called "the pink triangle". also, i forget how this pink swastika book explained why they killed gays in the concentration camps if they were also all gay themselves. I should re-look that up.

on edit: i just noticed after i already posted this you have a link in your OP to the pink swastika. ooops

6. Sub-humans are the only group that could be partaking of this type of hate and murder.
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 10:52 PM by BrklynLiberal
These are ignorant, narrow-minded people who do not even know that they are being manipulated by power-hungry quack "evangelists".
These con-artists are using religion to gain power, and that is all they are truly after.
They foster hate and fear, and appeal to the basest part of the human mind.
That this kind of horror could exist, be condoned, and even attract followers is a horrific commentary on the world today.

12. It is an unhealthy and dangerous witch hunt
these RW are embarking on. A new Crusade. Now they are bringing in activists from Fla. and getting pro bono law work to repeal the existing marriages for 18,000 HUMAN BEINGS.

It's a pretty far, far RW power play that they are going for. First the gays and then the socialists and lefties and then... ?

It get's a little stressful sometimes and here is why :

Am J Community Psychol. 2003 Jun;31(3-4):313-28.
Stressor and resilience factors for lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals confronting antigay politics. Russell GM, Richards JA.

Institute for Gay and Lesbian Strategic Studies, Amherst, Massachusetts 01004-2603,
When lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) people encounter antigay campaigns and elections, they face explicit and implicit homophobic attacks. In order to understand the points of stress and the bases for resilience in the face of these attacks, we developed a 130-item quantitative survey on the basis of results of an earlier qualitative study. Three hundred, sixteen Colorado LGB people endorsed items representing sources of stress and sources of resilience associated with the campaign for and passage of an antigay referendum. Factor analyses of the results suggested 5 sources of stressors and 5 sources of resilience for LGB persons and their communities.

These types of messages undermine the basic value and humanity of LGB people.

It is reasonable to expect that exposure to such materials and to discussions about LGB rights can constitute a stressor for at least some LGB people, even when specific election outcomes favor LGB rights.

When election outcomes do not support equal rights for LGB people, an additional set of stressors may come into play.

An antigay electoral decision suggests to LGB people that they are not full members of the community; it may increase legal concerns in matters of employment and housing; it raises concerns that antigay votes will unleash broader forms of harassment and violence (Booth, 1992; Spring, 1992; Stepanek, 1992).

In addition, some LGB people, especially those who tend to deny the pervasiveness of homonegativity, may find their denial compromised (Russell, 2000).

17. You are very welcome. Did you notice
"When lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) people encounter antigay campaigns and elections , they face explicit and implicit homophobic attacks"

This election for the top of the ticket brought out our hopes and the Cali gays endured the gay bashing P8 ads thinking it was all past of the same tidal wave. When it passed, then it was pulling out our very support systems, our "safe place" not to mention a sense of loss of our support group.

No wonder everyone is still shaken from Tues.

p.s.

I have a thread on this with two more links at our GLBT forum it's about the emotional cost of bigotry and the damage it does.
