You Know less than a week ago people speculated that DU would have nothing to talk about.
I mean we had the Presidency and both houses of congress.

All DU'ers were united on a common front after reaching our goals.

The Primary battles and subsequent flame wars of yesteryear were a distant memory.

Democratic Underground was no longer necessary as we moved together into a new America.

DU would be reduced to scholarly discussions of policy differences within the new administration and pictures of cats.

So how is that going so far?

2.  It's going just fine. Thanks for asking.
A week ago you weren't posting. If when you lurked that was the impression you had of DU, you were mistaken. There are always issues left to talk about, disagreements to be had, and even scholarly discussions of policy, occasionally interspersed with pictures of cats and kids.

8. Oh I completely agree. But I do remember the hand wringing threads worried that we
wouldn't have any real reason to talk with each other.

I'm just looking at what some are declaring lemons (The whose fault is Prop 8 wars, The RFK jr threads)and making lemonade.

Look at the bright side DU is still active and vibrant.

:D :toast: :hi:

7. Apparently cats DO eat their owners, but dogs will lay down and die right next to you
(This is what tried to autofill when I typed in my above comment.)

Here, let me answer line by line:

>>I mean we had the Presidency and both houses of congress.

Let me get this out of the way:

Wooo! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

>>All DU'ers were united on a common front after reaching our goals.

Never been the case, never will be the case. Why? We all have different priorities and concerns, and we don't all agree that others should have their concerns dealt with.

>>The Primary battles and subsequent flame wars of yesteryear were a distant memory.

We can always hope- yet the people who were banned during that bleak period and the true damage done by the people on the podiums remains.

>>Democratic Underground was no longer necessary as we moved together into a new America.

Last time I looked, McCain got over 50 million votes(Although that is QUITE possibly due to voter fraud). This is NOT "One America"- we have a LOT of work to do to drag the fundies and the others kicking and screaming into the 21st century. It will NOT be easy, but it has to be done.

>>DU would be reduced to scholarly discussions of policy differences within the new administration and pictures of cats.

Crossing fingers...Hard.

>>So how is that going so far?

DU is needed and will remain important IMO. The fact that things haven't settled down means that people are still thinking and watching- positive traits, IMO.
