3. You mean there is no appeal? Even if it violates the Ca. state constitution and the
US constitution for that matter???

14. Of course there's an appeal, though to answer your question there's nothing DU can do about it...

4. I would say it's once again in the courts hands
But if it overturned, couldn't another proposition be placed on a future ballot.

11. If another one is put on the ballot I'll bet you EVERYONE will be out fighting it.
I do think there is the possibility of complacency in California, because I NEVER would have suspected 8 could pass. Not in a million years.....

In Oklahoma, maybe, but not california.

12. Yes the fact that it passed in California was even harder to understand
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 04:12 AM by Nasprin
I would say that is easily one of the most progressive states in the union. I think people that voted Yes need to understand that what they did was take away a right that was already on the books. They were not voting for gay marriage, they were voting to deny a civil right. Hard to understand. It's like voting to take away the right for a woman to vote.

on edit: Left out the not. They were not voting for gay marriage is what I meant to write.

13. Yep - just like taking away the right to vote.
I hope it galvinizes everyone interested in seeing full civil rights enacted for EVERYONE in the US to jump on the next peice of shit legislation that comes down the pike....

Once these things look like they work the haters will try it everywhere.

They all need to be exposed for what and who they are.

15. California banned gay marriage in 2001 with like 70% supporting that
51% voting against gay marriage is progress, but it's only a step in terms of the voting public.

5. I am waiting to hear the plan!
The gay community needs a plan.... can someone post it.

I don't mean to be sarcastic. But I have yet to see a constructive plan.

Suggestion: Boycotts are a start.

6. Talking about it is doing something.
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 03:58 AM by TexasObserver
Talking on the internet about any topic creates buzz, and buzz creates coverage.

There are protests taking place, and those protests need television coverage. The more buzz in the blogosphere, the more likely news coverage.

The identification of the major resolution backers and taking appropriate boycott actions against them are merited. I think we will see the actions responsive to the resolution take form in the coming weeks. The Mormon church has declared war on gays, and gays should declare war on them - a sustained boycott of all things Mormon, a sustained effort to have the LDS' tax exemption removed.

9. Wait until the courts repeal it in a few weeks.
Any amendment to the California constitution must be decided by a 4-3 ruling, not just a simple proposition.

Although some are saying now it could go to the Supreme Court.

19. What would we do if California had just banned interracial marriage?
Seriously consider that, and you'll have your answer.
