Two trips to Chicago, two brushes with Oprah.

Such was this week in the life of Sam Perry, the California man catapulted into the spotlight when he randomly ended up next to an emotional Oprah Winfrey at Tuesday's Barack Obama rally.

Sam Perry, of Menlo Park, Calif., and his left shoulder were thrust into the national spotlight after Oprah Winfrey was seen weeping on him during Barack Obama's victory speech in Grant Park on Tuesday. At the time, Winfrey did not know the man.

Winfrey admitted on-air Wednesday she didn't know who he was. After a friend of Perry's outed him in an e-mail to her studio, Winfrey invited him on Friday's live show.

Perry told the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday he believes the image of him and Winfrey was emblematic of the genuine emotion felt by many.

"It really encapsulates the spirit of the time and the moment," he said.

1. That's neat
sort of like the two little boys on their father's shoulders sharing the Obama sign. Now I'm crying again. :)

3. Jesse Jackson Got To Me As Well...
I remember the 70's Jesse...hearing him give his weekly sermons from Operation Breadbasket and how many things that man had seen...the same eyes that were on that balcony in Memphis were now teared at seeing the first Black American win the Presidency of the United States. The emotion on his face said a lot to me. I also couldn't help thinking Harold Washington and Martin Luther King, Jr. were looking down at this truly historic moment.
