Hi Malia and Sasha
Wheaten/Standard Poodle mix puppies, ten weeks old, in Plainfield, Il (suburban Chicago)

BOTH parents are hypo-allergenic breeds.

Not "shelter" dogs, but not puppymill breeder either (no association with me - I just googled)

5. Yes, that is what it is
Intentional cross of two breeds, in hopes of getting the benefits of both and reducing the drawbacks.

The link explains it, and yes, they call it a "whoodle" (arggh). I guess the alternative was a "pooten" though, and that would not be desirable :)

9. wow! too cute!
Doggies are amazing little souls! I'm so glad those little girls will be getting their new BFFs.

On Rachel's show earlier this week, one journalist (forget his name) was backstage during the acceptance speech, and overheard Michelle discussing "a two dog strategy" with someone. I really hope she does that! Dogs are social animals, and they need constant companionship. Two dogs or more would be ideal!

10. I'm with ya....
on the two puppy strategy...
the pups would have companionship
and the girls won't have to argue
over who gets to walk them
or feed them

14. Back in the 60's when my mother had poodles, and raised a few litters for sale,
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 02:55 PM by SoCalDem
this type of dog was a "whoops"..aka known as a mutt :)

Back then even parti-colored poodles were not recognized by the AKC..

my , how times have changed:)

My son & his wife have a Labradoodle..she was a rescue of sorts.. the people who had bought her as a puppy, got divorced, and neither moved to a place that allowed pets, so Sophie was adopted by my son & d-i-l..

Sophie lucked out...big time... she goes to doggie day care 5 days a week, and has a "personal trainer".. They even hired a doggie shrink to help her quit chasing their elderly cat

15. About breeding out genetic issues in dogs....
It is the American Breeders who bred in the blood-protein problem in Wheatens which is fatal. It is the stupidity of the Breeders that is breeding in a little "poodle" to the Wheatens to get that more wavy curly coat. I say leave the Wheaties alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This cross breeding does not necessarily weed out anything and you could get a dog that has all the issues. Stupid stupid stupid. Especially with all the "mutts" in pounds, Shelters and homeless. Sick. I am obviously very upset with this cross breeding of the Wheatens. I mean, they came from Ireland and when the Americans bred in the problems, breeders had to go to England to get an Irish dog. Poop on them I say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11. Send the link to John McCormick at the Chicago Tribune. Obama
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 11:43 AM by mnhtnbb
called him out for a question (home town paper) in the presser on Friday. He'd probably
know how to get the info to Michelle or whatever staff person is doing the legwork on looking for dogs.

16. Maybe send a link to Wheaten Rescue
Irish. Dark when born and turns light. Medium sized dog. Friendly. Non-barking. Non-chewing. Bladder of steel. Only Terrier Breed that has a working dog personality. They are known for a STEADY TEMPERAMENT. THIS IS A NON-ALLERGENIC BREED. Non-shedding. Sweet but when attacked watch out because it stands up on its hind haunches and knows how to fight. Sounds like Barack to me. I am on my second Wheaten. Both were rescues.
