My friend lives on a busy street and has been putting signs against the war in his yard for 6 years now. Since August, someone has been throwing trash in his yard every day. So he followed the guy and turns out he is a vice principal at a high school. I posted about it here and got a lot of great suggestions about how to handle it.

Well here is what my friend finally decided to do:

The sign has been up for a week and the trash is no longer being thrown in his yard.

He also got some press coverage.

Turns out, someone had a beef with Quinly’s outspoken politics. Since he erected those signs, he’s been under assault from a fast-food junkie. Every morning, the activist alleges, someone chucks the garbage from their McDonald's breakfast onto his front lawn.

At first, the longtime activist collected the debris each morning. Then, he let the trash pile up to show his disregard for the vandal. But that irked Quinly’s neighbor, so again he started collecting the Golden Arches garbage. Not to be defeated, he examined the bags for clues. The receipt showed the disgruntled commuter purchased his morning grub at the restaurant at 130th Street and State Line Road around 5:30 a.m. Then the McMuffin-muncher switched over to 119th Street and Roe.

One morning earlier this month, Quinly staked out his front drive and finally spotted the politically motivated litterbug. The man in question was driving a black GMC pickup truck. Fed up with the greasy onslaught, Quinly hopped in his car and followed his suspect until it pulled into the parking lot of Wyandotte High School. Armed with the man’s license plate number, Quinly attempted to track down the driver’s name; what he got: Robert Bayer, the school’s assistant principal.

Quinly wanted to spark some dialogue, so he decided to call Bayer out.

Public shaming is sometimes something I can agree with.

6. Check out the comments following the article
One person admits contacting the principal at that high school. An excellent idea! School board should be contacted as well!

Here's what's really bad about this guy - his high school serves a high proportion of minority and low income kids. Cannon fodder for recruiters. I want to try to figure out how many kids from that school have been killed and injured in Iraq. How dare their vice principal promote this war!

Proud2BLiib, Great post very inspiring. Say, while we all know an upside down American flag is a sign of distress and not necessarily a sign of disrespect; in view of President-elect Obama's victory and the hope of a better future in the US, can you foresee a time when you will flip our flag over?

21. Ordinarily, I'd say things went too far
But since Mr. Bayer didn't just do this once, or every Wednesday for a month, but repeatedly and stubbornly kept it up day after day, this was no "isolated" incident or "temporary" lapse of judgment. This was a systematic, consistent and premeditated little act of childishness. Does Mr. Bayer deserve to lose his job? Maybe not. This wasn't job-related, after all. But does he deserve a full load of society's disapproval? Oh, yeah.

Buckle up, Mr. Bayer, you little chickenshit.

I am a teacher and if I did something like this, trust me, my district would be VERY concerned. And we don't need to feel too sorry for Bayer. He has been in the district for 25 years so he surely is eligible for retirement.

33. I did say "maybe" he shouldn't lose his job
But from a look at the administration photo page, perhaps Mr. Bayer could explain himself in a school assembly. And have him do it personally and directly to

Minnie Brooks
Kim Johnson
Anna Barnes
Henrietta Jones
Clifton Jones
Michelle Brown
Twoana Hammond
Carolyn Jones
Karen Dewberry
Sherri Walsh
Kim Hollinshed

Let him explain, in detail, what he was thinking each and every time he tossed that bag of trash. Let the above folks have the chance to ask him nice, pointed, detailed questions about his feelings toward Barack Obama in particular and black people in general. And the questioning isn't done until every last one of them is satisfied with his answers.

I believe I'd donate a dollar to a fund to buy Mr. Bayer some knee pads for all the grovelling I'd expect to see him doing.

what he did? He was wrong to litter like that, and should be held to account, but how do you know for sure he's a racist? And, if he was not an Obama supporter, how do you know it was solely due to racism? He is not required by law to support Obama, you know.

Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 02:53 PM by DeschutesRiver
to this man's yard. Since he is a vice principal and there is no single class he teaches to pull out, maybe each class sends 5 representatives to listen to Mr. Bayer describe what he did, for how long, and for what reason. And to apologize to the property owner in public, in front of the kids and one news reporter.

Next day, Mr. Bayer could speak in front of his kids at the school, have an assembly where he discusses better ways to express ones feelings legally, instead of criminally.

Each act, the public apology at the scene of his crime, and the lesson given at the school assembly, would help redeem him at that school, because nobody is gonna give a flying f about his authority to do what vice principals need to do when he is nothing more than a chronic lawbreaker in the kids' eyes.

If he doesn't want to apologize to the guy or the kids, or acknowledge what he did wrong and how to better handle things when you are an adult, then he really doesn't have any business being at that school if he can't set a better example other than one of criminal mischief. Kick his ass out if he isn't willing to apologize and make the situation right - it is nothing more than you'd expect your kid to do if you caught him doing this.

Of course, Mr. Quinly would not be the man he is, would he be the kind of person who would do that. I imagine he will choose some quiet, personally relevant monniker and never identify himself as Mr. Quinly, who is now a "Honorary DU Stud", "Honorary DUer" or whatever. Tell him that, too, by the way.

Not that I'd care nor hold it against him if he did identify himself here and let himself enjoy it for a bit.

Figured he must live simply. House with wooden floor maybe? Lots and lots of bookcases chock full of the coolest most interesting books, and he's read every one?

Warm and happy house, eh? I know that house. I've been inside it many times, all over this great country of ours.

Honestly, sometimes I wish I was that kind of guy. Not that I am not perfectly happen with the guy I turned out to be, but I have always envied and greatly respected that type of person.

I just had an idea. I don't know if it's a money issue, but you do understand we could raise enough here at DU for a top of the line computer that won't go obsolete, and a big modem with the works, in about 5 minutes...if that was the problem.

I KNOW DUers would line of around the block to buy Mr. Quinly a computer, modem and with money left over to pay one year or more of internet access.

FIVE minutes..p2blib..FIVE minutes.

OK, OK, you know how I love to exaggerate to make my point  ...maybe five HOURS..tops.

I don't know that's the problem. PM me, because the rest of this discussion shouldn't take place "in public".

Principal Walter Thompson - wathomp@kckps.org

He probably doesn't have the authority to fire Robert Bayer, this chicken shit assistant principal, but we can let him know of our disgust with such behavior.

This vice principal cannot possibly handle students with any fairness or objectivity. What an assholy, immature, law-breaking, unprincipled vice principal.

Littering, after all, is a misdemeanor!

Quinly could and should press charges.

BTW it's not just littering here, although that is the most obvious crime. Repetitive actions intended to disturb, demean, provoke or frighten another may be charged as harrassment, and furthermore a hate crime enhancer may be added if Mr. Quinly was targeted for his political convictions (it may be harder to prove but worth investigating, imo).

Robert Bayer has been littering David's yard every single day for 3 months. This isn't just a momentary loss of reason on his part. It is a deliberate daily attack for 3 solid months on David's right to free speech.

IMO, Robert Bayer shouldn't be around kids on a daily basis.

Exaggerating for comic effect, but not a whole lot, actually.

He's got some JUMBO coconut balls, that one. In Kansas fucking CITY, no less. Yeah, yeah, I know the cities are always more liberal than the surrounding countryside but KANSAS, where McBush got 59%-40% over Obama or something!

I know he almost certainly isn't a man of violence, but God Forbid, if I had to go into conflict, I wouldn't worry about having Mr. Quinly on my flank, watching out for me and me him...

I almost feel like I know the guy, and I hope I've got it right, and not just a stupid caricature of a real human being. If so, I do apologize.

92. Copy of Letter Faxed to School Board
Monday, November 10, 2008

Dr. Jill Shackelford
Superintendent of Schools
Kansas City Board Of Education
625 Minnesota Ave.
Kansas City, KS 66101

RE: Alleged Actions of Robert Bayer, Asst. Principal of Wyandotte High School

Dr. Shackelford:

Having learned that an employee under your supervision, one Robert Bayer, Asst. Principal of Wyandotte High School, has allegedly, purposefully, maliciously, regularly and with malice of forethought been violating the law by throwing his garbage on a fellow citizen’s yard – action on your part is clearly called for.

I refer you to the article appearing in the Kansas City “Pitch Magazine” which can be accessed here for your scrutiny:

http://blogs.pitch.com/plog/2008/10/anti-war_activist_puts_principals_name_in_a_pile_of_poop_.php

Surely the Kansas City Board of Education neither endorses nor condones such vile behavior from any employee, let alone an administrator.

Mr. Bayer’s alleged repeated violations of the law were not done in the fit of anger – but a premeditated, willful activity purposefully designed to be hateful and insulting.

Mr. Bayer is an employee of a public school run by public funding, and as such he is expected to be a model of decorum and an avatar of tolerance – but at the minimum, he is expected to abide by our laws.

There can be no doubt that the alleged outrageous actions Mr. Bayer committed fall flagrantly short on all counts.

I trust you will take appropriate action in this matter.

Respectfully,

...

NOTES:
In addition to the above Board of Education address, other contacts for them are
Phone: (913) 551-3200
Fax: (913) 551-3217

Also, visiting the Wyandotte HS website, I believe that Mary Stewart is listed as their Principal

100. folks, you are missing the most obvious point.
This jerk eats at Mac's EVERY MORNING? Greasy undercooked hashbrowns, slimy pre-fab eggs, fat laden ham or sausage meat, perhaps two, and more?

That kind of diet will do our work for us. Given his actions we already know that the blood vessels leading to his brain are already 99% partially clogged. If his brain DID have a better blood supply, he'd never do this stuff.

One little event, or a double serving of hashbrowns will take of this problem for us.
