1. They are completely out of touch with real Americans
"Yes, I had to cut something, so I let the scullery maid go. Now I only have a butler, cook and upstairs maid. Boo hoo!"

7. It is republican insanity. Cut Cut Cut think about this:
There is a limit to how much can be cut without destroying the family, business, or country. On the otherhand, the profit potential is theoretically unlimited by spending. Spending on education, Marketing, Machinery, Engineers, and so on.

As with most things, the republicans are DEAD WRONG.
The only group with a lower predictive success rate is the religious.

14. Similar discussion on MSNBC
Recommended that Americans cut their holiday spending in half. :wtf: I did that last year- pretty soon I'll be giving out pet rocks from my garden.

21. The problem with that
is that my husband's business depends on holiday spending. His numbers are already down a bunch. How does not spending help the economy? Well, we can always cut back on food, that'll get me back into a size 2 in a jiffy.

Wait, if we don't spend money on food, then how will the grocer survive?

27. Cutting Christmas spending may help our personal budgets but it
will not help the economy. When we do not have enough money to buy the merchant is the one getting hurt and then the manufacturer. It is a circle and that is what has happened when they moved our jobs overseas.

24. Just send Richie Rich to Egypt...
...where I've lived for 3 years.

And let's give him a cushy job with the government. Or teaching school.

He will make about 500 Egyptian pounds (LE) a month. That's between $70-80 US dollars. Which has to pay the rent, buy food, gas for the car, and schooling or tutoring for the kids. And everything else.

Or if he's a more average Egyptian, he'll rake in about LE 200 per month. That's around 30 US dollars.

Now let's not forget that we are in the middle of a GLOBAL economic crisis. So like everywhere else, prices are going up for just about everything in Egypt right now.

I sometimes resent it when Egyptians say things like "all Americans are rich." (My usual response: "If I were rich, I wouldn't be here working.")

But believe me, compared to these folks, most of us ARE rich. It's been an eye-opening and generally humbling experience.
