This is serious-please if anyone can answer, please do
I was just outside my house talking to a neighbor and a couple of military jets flew over my house. The only time I've ever seen this was after 9/11. Does anyone know of some event that would be going on that would warrant this?

I live in Essex County NJ.

3. Maybe a football game nearby with a military flyover
for veterans day?

Of course it could be a Bush coup attempt.

2 F-16's flying overhead in the Twin Cities (MN). One of my coworkers was certain they were fully loaded.

7. Yup
that's what it looked like. We don't have air shows around here. It's quite an urban area. As I said, the only other time I've seen this is after 9/11.

Glad that your sighting was earlier this week, that rules out some sort of crisis.

6. Veterans Day Weekend Air Show, no doubt about it.
It's the flyingest weekend of the year for fighter pilots.

18. Atlantic City has hosted air shows, although I don't know if there are any this weekend.
Essex county is close enough to the coast that an airshow anywhere in NE could also involve planes doing a flying over on the way.

19. Most air shows are in urban areas, usually at a military installation.
The airplane has to travel from wherever it is based to the show, and back. You would only need to be located on a path between two such points.

Google "Veterans Day, air shows" and I'm sure you'll find many in the country.

13. Here at my house, 15 miles from Mexico,
we have the Border Patrol helicopters circling all the time. Plus the jets from Fort Huachuca, plus tons of Border Patrol cars and vans, Customs, Staties, and local police. This is the most heavily policed place I've ever lived.

20. I live about 50 miles from an air base
There are times that I was sure they were practicing for some big invasion. But nothing ever happens. I saw them practicing ground attacks on our small county airport here about 6 months ago. It was about the time when Bush was "Getting Tough on Iran". They were coming in over populated areas with afterburners on and swooping over the airstrip and then hauling ass out of there. They also had a couple of spotter planes and a helicopter. They did this about 6 times and then left. This had never happened before and it seemed very suspicious. But I guess they just had cash to burn.

Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 01:51 PM by rocknation
They showed a shot of a flyover going into a commercial break. Most likely it's going to be part of the halftime show, probably in observance of Veterans' day.
